It's interesting to read that other people have had personal experiences of "anti-white" racism.

My girlfriend and I were walking up Lothian Road and were approached by four black guys. They weren't friendly and made comments to the effect of "**** this white ****...try some big black dick tonight darling". They were looking for me to start but all we could do was walk away as anything else would have resulted in me getting a leathering.

Another time was at college where I had the audacity to strike up a conversation with an asian girl in the canteen queue.
The asian boys all stuck together at College and I even knew a few of them but later that week I got cornered by a few of the bigger guys and was basically told to "stick to my own type", called a "white ****" and was threatened with being stabbed.
It was immediately after 9/11 and tensions were running high so I took it on the chin and never reported it.

They weren't nice experiences and I'm sure a lot of white guys have had similar but more than that it gave me food for thought.
Why this pack mentality and why so much hatred and bitterness?

I forgive these people for three reasons:

1. The racist abuse they put up with at school must have stuck. Even in the eighties and nineties there was racism without anyone even realising it was wrong.
Lots of kids from every ethnic minority were singled out even then.

2. The tales they heard from their parents. If I were from a south Asian of Black background and heard about the treatment they recieved I would be absolutely fuming. The first generation were meant to be welcomed with open arms but the treatment they recieved was despicable.

3. The historic perceptions. These guys' ancestors were all the subjects of the white man. People know their history
So it's inevatable that some people let it all come out....and rightly so.
Britain and even Scotland was pretty bad in that respect so let's not hide from it.
We have no comeback on this and the "big genitalia" theory...well that's ****ing backfired!...unless you're a highlander
or a black man!

The real point is I think we're going to go down the same road with the Eastern Europeans. We have to learn lessons!
and the only way to do that is by throwing our arms open, accepting their culture and welcoming them like brothers.

we can't make the same mistakes again.

I understand what your saying and the incidents you describe are despicable. You should not however be an apologist for being victim to these despicable acts- they are what they are: criminal acts of intimidation and the perpetrators are guilty of them despite historical context or the other reasons that you give.

i think i'm with PD on this one. it's not something you can tackle head on - that's what the perpetrators are looking for. they have a stick up their arse. better just not get involved.

I'm not advocating that he or anyone else get involved in fisticuffs of some kind of confrontation with some neds. It just seems to me that in PD's post, he seems be twisting himself into knots in an effort to justify and explain the criminal actions of certain people he's come across.

I think the OP refers to my experience from the other thread but it sounds like you're saying it's fine because they might have reasons. Well it's not fine.

They're racist ****. Very rarely is anything ever made of black/asian to white racism and I think you've just highlighted why with your thoughts. It's acceptable.

Guess what, I never used anyone as a slaves or subject them to racism so they can go **** themselves.

i don't think anyone is saying it's acceptable - just that giving them the rise they're looking for is totally pointless. if you actually end up needing to defend yourself then fair enough, but it's always best to downplay the racial aspects of stuff like this - when the media make a big fuss about it it becomes self perpetuating IMO.

So it's best to down play non white to white racism?

Edit; sorry, I may have misunderstood what you were saying.

So do you think it should be reported to the police or just forget about it all together?

I'm guessing the guys mentioned in the OP have been racist before and will continue to be in future.

I'm reasonably well-travelled and just about every race I have encountered is racist to a degree. Russians, Chinese, Arabs, Africans, white South Americans to name a few.

Human nature. The fear of difference and the unknown is in our DNA.

Does not excuse it, but I think it's never going to be eradicated - just needs to be continued to be heavily frowned upon.

However, the 'white man' seems to have the biggest guilt trip about racism by far, as engineered by lunatics in the education system and the media (BBC, take a bow). As a previous poster opined, I would concur that I have no apology to make for the sins of my forefathers, despite the extensive and well-documented terrors that whites have inflicted worldwide for hundreds of years. Didn't happen on my watch.

Just take people as you find them, I guess.

I started a thread about this a wee while back but it got deleted before I had a chance to read any replies. After a discussion at work this Filipino guy declared, in absolute seriousness, "all whites are sluts". I was very angry about it, and not because I am female, but because I am white and that is a ridiculous and appauling comment. The main point in my original thread was that if in the same situation a white guy said "all blacks are sluts" openly in front of 7 other people in the workplace, he could expect to be disciplined - maybe even sacked depending on his job. But in this case nothing was said.

Although I agree with the OP about not saying anything when you would most likely have got a kicking, no way should you be making excuses for it. It's ignorant and every bit as disgraceful as white-on-black racism.

Well it's not like that at all....I'm not "twisting myself into knots" to justify anything.

My opinions have been based on discussions of these incidents with Kashmiri and black people I know.

On reflection I should have reported them...what's to stop these ***** from repeating their actions?
However, I didn't...I made the decision there and then based on the circumstances and I can't change that.
I agree with tariq that they have broken the law end-of and are criminals but as a white man being abused in my own country by people who I see as historical brothers in arms makes me think about the historical relationships between our countries.

We should be the model for the world to copy given our relatioships with foreign nations.

It's time we flung our arms open and accepted the people who think they are still outsiders!

It understandable given the situation you were in not to have reported them so fair enough. I just hate to see people get away with racism.

I was in a situation over in Amsterdam after ending up in a wrong street after getting out a taxi with a mate. 4 big black guys were coming down the street and were walking aggressively towards us and started shouting stuff, I'm not sure if it was racist or just guys pissed off but me being an arse started with the 'what the **** are you saying like' for me to look to my side and my mate wasn't there. He'd ran about ten metres up the road!

Thankfully one of the guys was trying to get me to leave before I got ****ed up (he was the only one who could speak English) so I tried to play it cool and said fair enough. I turned around to walk away and there were two more behind me who gave me a hit with the shoulder. I must admit that my arse flapped being stuck in the middle of 6 big black dudes on my own. :faf:

I think you done well to walk away, I probably would have waded in and took a kicking! I think the problem is going to get worse as the years go by, we should have years ago worked harder at getting immigrants to integrate into our society and way of life, but I suppose the easy option is to stick to your own kind for want of a better phrase. In France I have heard stories about area's which have become ghetto's with no whites in them at all.
