What do people know about this from experience?
I've read up a bit on it on wikipedia in the last few mins. My mum has just been to A&E struggling to breath and got a chest xray. She was told it was identified in a chest xray almost two years ago but no one ever told her.
Wikipedia says life expectancy is 0-3 years normally. Is that all cases.:bitchy::no way:
Stay away from places like Wikipedia - they are crap. You'll get far more info and support on one of the official sites like this

My advice is to stay away from forums. When I was ill I read them one day and was ready for my coffin within an hour.
heres another that looks pretty informative

I think for end stage Emphysema the life expectancy would be around 3 years.
EDIT: http://www.buzzle.com/articles/emphysema-life-expectancy.html
Here you go. Remember, it predominantly affects the elderly, so this reduces the life expectancy even further.

Thanks for the info. My mum has a lot of trouble sleeping and eating so COPD certainly fits the bill.
Why the **** didn't they tell her almost two years ago. :grr:

:agree:
I convinced myself i had a brain tumour by reading wikipedia and webmd. Whilst it seems funny now at the time i was very anxious about it.
Turned out i was suffering vestibular migraines. Still nasty but not particularly serious.
As for the OP my aunty has CPOD and she is well in her 80s and was diagnosed aout 8 years ago. Thats just a personal experience though so not a reflection on a totally seperate case obviously a GP/specialist can give more info for individual cases.

i was diagnosed with COPD 2+half years ago, and immdeiatley stopped my 40 fags/day habbit :agree: go to the gym 3 times/week and it DOES help the breathing, although it's relatively 'mild' at the moment and is 'manageable'(with treatment) , i imagine it will eventually get worse, so a message to all smokers out there...it WILL catch up with you at some stage in your life, give up the nicotine :agree:

:agree: Best thing that anyone can do for their health is give up smoking.
I gave up about 9 months ago and i've never felt better. I can walk more than 200 yards without wheezing these days, i can taste food and drink properly, i don't stink, i don't spend half my morning coughing up chunks of tar and half the night spluttering and breathless.
Truly the best thing i have ever done even though it was hard at the time because i genuinely enjoyed smoking. If i can do it anyone can.

i thought about this thread when i saw this on the news
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-us-canada-10945050
A Massachusetts man who was rushed to hospital with a collapsed lung came home with an unusual diagnosis: a pea plant was growing in his lung.
