i had that thot however i think the other numbers have been updated aswell? dont see why they would add stephens, hart and de graaf and leave the others with old numbers?

Well they didnt need to be! Messi wore 19 or 33 in different competiions

I don't think particular squad numbers are as important as they used to be. You rarely, if ever, see a team playing numbers 1-11 in a game anymore.

5 was free, so Stephens has probably just took it. I wouldn't read too much into it.
