Before anyone hires a car to drive to Maribor beware the initial deposit cost to take the car out the country.

We're flying to Budapest and are driving from there to Slovenia and have been told on top of the cost of hiring the vehicle we need to pay a £2100 deposit which has to be by credit card and in the name of the driver - a third party card, cheque or cash is unacceptable.

The charge is for taking the car out of the country and is worth checking out if going via Austria or Germany.

And if you come back with so much as a scratch on it then any amount they decide is needed to fix will be taken out of this

Make sure you get them to check the car over with you on return and get a receipt from them. They can't charge you after issuing a receipt and if they do, your credit card company will charge it back to the rental company. (I worked for Avis for many years)

:agree: you are right if nothing is wrong (in fact i make a point of photographing it while they check) Should also do good check and sign all current marks / scratches off on paperwork before accepting vehicle

But if there is a scratch / dent etc etc...you are at the mercy of what they claim repair cost is....and as you know if you have worked in the business, these small paid for prangs are rarely actually fixed
