Lightweight title fight early next Sunday morning live on Sky Sports.

Should be a cracker if it's anything like the war these 2 had last year. Diaz was looking good, out boxing Marquez for long spells, hurting him with the left hook and looking far too quick, Marquez got it together as the rounds ticked by and scored a spectacular 9th round KO.

Both men coming in of the back of defeats; Marquez destroyed by Mayweather and Diaz outpointed by Malignaggi in a rematch after he won a dodgy decision first time around.

Diaz at 26 and with 2 losses in his last 3 fights really needs a victory to get back on track, the guy has bags of talent and is quick and exciting. Marquez at 37 is in the twilight of his career, still an exceptionally skilled boxer and back down at his natural weight he could be back to his best. Remember this is a guy who outboxed Manny Pacquaio for about 11 rounds and earned a draw despite being down 3 times in the opener, he also deserved something from the rematch and was unlucky to lose a split decision.

I'm struggling to pick a winner and think it could be a close or split decison, in his prime Marquez would have won this 9.5 times out of 10, it looks a bit like father time is catching up with him and the Mayweather loss will have taken a lot out of him given the nature of the beating, on saying that he was fighting 2 weight above this and arguably 3 or 4 above his best weight. I'm going for Marquez just, i wouldn't be surprised to see Diaz take it though.

As an aside there will be a British interest in this fight as the winner is likely to step up to light welterweight and fight Amire Khan.

Get your money on Diaz. Watched the weigh in and Marquez looked like a ghost.

I get the feeling he may be a shot fighter. He looked the same way Castillo looked before Hatton, De La Hoya before Pacquaio, Hatton before Pacquaio, Gomez before Burns etc etc. All fighters who were given soundbites that they were 'in the best shape of their career' but the appearance at the weigh in suggested otherwise.

I hope i'm wrong as Marquez deserves to go out on a high.

Whoops!

:agree: What an idiot.

Should have stuck with my original prediction in post 1. Marquez looked brilliant if a little slower than in years gone by.
