I always find Cheque Centre have the best rates for cash and use them regularly. There are several in Edinburgh (more famous for extortionate short term loans and pay day advances). Currently giving 1.53 euro to the £.

Cheque Centre is what I use to get some pocket money for going away, but when I'm over there I use my Santander(Abbey) Zero Credit Card. No loading or charges to withdraw money from ATM's abroad. I usually load the card before I go by making an overpayment and use over there like a normal ATM card. Just back from Rhodes and on checking my transactions I was getting €1.195 to the £.

There's a place in Waverley station called ICE currency. You download a voucher from their website and ame it in.
Best rates in Scotland and worth checking out.

Your best to just take money out the local ATM's.

I was in the Algarve last month and was getting 1.21 euro to the pound doing this.

Check your account as some (most) carry either a fixed or percentage charge for foriegn withdrawals.

I think that if you check with your own UK bank to see which banks they have an agreement with abroad - and then if you use their ATMs - no costs should be involved.

Of course - I am with Lloyds and IIRC they do this

Went to cyprus last month and got about 1.15 over here. Ended up taking out more from an ATM over there and got around 1.19, with a £1.50 charge. Wish i had just taking my full whack out there to be honest
