I have been reading a book of interesting, and amusing football anecdotes.

In the 45/46 season, FA Cup ties were played over 2 legs.

Barnsley had played an away leg against Newcastle and went into the home leg 2 - 4 down.

With the home leg scheduled to be played midweek, local employers anticipated a high volume of absenteeism, so the local Collieries posted notices informing employees, "In order that management may have knowledge of numbers to be absent on Wednesday afternoon, will those whose relatives are to be buried on the day please apply by Tuesday for permission to attend."

The response indicated that some 27000 funerals would be taking place that day and Barnsley honoured its dead with a 3 - 0 victory!

Fantastic!
