Feel free to add facts and videos
If anyone wants me to do the same for Videoton, let me know :agree:

Maribor won the Slovenian league in 2008/2009
In 2009/2010, they came 2nd, finishing 11pts behind the champions. They also won the domestic cup double.

In 08/09 they won their first round in europe (champions league) against FC WIT Georgia, with a 3-1 agg win. They then beat FC Zurich 3-2 at home, before losing the away leg 3-0.
In last seasons Europa league, Sparta Prague beat them 3-0 on agg.

They are currentl at 1-1 with Videoton in this years Europa league -
Here are the highlights from the Videoton v Maribor game

In Dragan Jelic, they had the leagues 2nd top scorer last season, with 15 goals in 36 games.
Jelic is 5' 11", 24 years old, but has only ever played for the Slovenian under 21's. He has scored 43 goals in 149 games for Maribor

Their 2nd top scorer was Brazilian, Marcos Tavares, with 10 goals.

Their goalscorer against Videoton was Dejan Mezga, a croatian centre midfielder. He's 5' 8" and 24 years old. He was Maribors player of the season in 08/09.

Their player of the season last year was Dejan Skolnik, but has since moved to Nacional in Portugal.

The teams holding midfielder is Armin Bacinovic. He is 20 years old, 6' tall, and has already got a full cap for Slovenia.

The stadium holds 12,400, and looks quite smart -

Great sweeties...

Seriously, a club of our stature should be looking beyond these 'byes'.

Let's look at the Juves and Liverpools.

They also play in one of the most unique colour combinations in football - purple and yellow. :cool2:

Maribor backwards is Robiram, which sounds like rhyming slang for jobby yam, if indeed, that were a phrase at all.

Maribor is in the former province of Untersteiermark (Lower Styria). Steiermark, which is mostly in Austria, has a green and white flag with the the styrian crest, including (I think) a Lion Rampant in the middle.

It's very Austrian in its appearance, the older buildings especially, which it would be as a former part of the Austrian empire.

Slovenia has the highest road accidents per head of population in the EU. Mainly because it's a shortcut from Austria and other countries to the Italian coast, but only has one motorway.

I was in Slovenia last year and they use the Euro now so it's not as cheap as it once was. I paid 2.70 euros for a beer but that was in Ljubljana so it may be cheaper in Maribor.

When I was in Slovakia 2 years ago, their drinks prices were cheap if you pointed to the price in the drinks list, but if you just ordered a beer and they knew you were a foreigner, you were getting charged twice the price.

If this is their fans, I think their tickets for match in Edinburgh should give directions to Tynecastle.
