He will be going to earn lots of money, plain and simple. He could play for a top team in Europe for two years at least before retiring. He has taken the money and run. To be fair, it is probably a good time with the French team at rock bottom and he has come to the end of the road with Barcelona. He won't play for France again and living in New York, being a hero in a diffent place must have it's appeal.

I can think of far far far worse places to live and top up the retirement fund. New York is my favourite city in the world

Plus he hardly played for Barca last season, so maybe the legs have gone. Agree that he surely could have hung around Europe for a couple of years, but maybe he figures that he's had a good career, won pretty much everything in Europe and fancies a new challenge of establishing "soccer" in the states. He's played at the top level in Spain, England, Italy (although it never worked out too well at Juve) and France. Won the world cup and the Euro championship with France.... Does he really want to end up at a middle of the road team in one of these countries?

TBH Henry was awful for Barca at times last year. Has lost a lot of his pace which was what made him such a threat in the first place. He also looked really disinterested at times. His goalscoring record was poor and his workrate and contibution to the team almost zero. Don't be fooled remembering Henry as he was at Arsenal, he never got near that form at Barcelona and the season past was particularly bad. I would be hugely surprised if he had any big or biggish European clubs banging the door down for him.

A move to New York gives him a chance to play in a lower standard league were he will still be one of the top players, he will be paid an absolute fortune and he gets the chance to live in a brilliant and vibrant city.

When he was at the top of his game, who was better?

Kevin Kyle? He may not have got as many goals or assists as Henry but has caused teams more problems.

Who can really blame him?

He's won everything there is to win and he gets to live in New York, anyone in his position would do the same. If he moves anywhere else in Europe its going to be a backwards step, it dosent get any bigger than Barca really.

Looking at his form the last few seasons I'd say he has little desire to play anywhere!

Shame - he was fantastic for The Arse all those years ago.
