When Hibs took the Jambos apart on the 1st January 1973, Hibs needed to win by IIRC 6 goals to move to the top of the league, we had beat Aberdeen 3-2 at ER two days before but does anyone know who Hearts played before us and where were they in the league?

They lost 3-2 away to St Johnstone and were in 7th position before and after the 7 - 0 gubbing

My favourite all time stat is that in the 1973 half of the 72/73 season Hibs actually scored more league goals at PBS than Yams! They fell apart after getting one hell of a beating on 1/1/73 & I think they only scored 4 goals!
If memory serves me correctly I think Yams were 3rd or 4th in league in mid December of 72 & I thought they lost to Dundee close to the greatest game in history.

Well shared. Nex time I'm within puking distance of a 'debate' with one of them that, my friend, will be in my armoury.

Up until the time of writing the programme notes for the derby (http://www.londonhearts.com/images/pr1972-73/pages/1973010102%20Hibernian%200-7%20Tynecastle.htm) game, Los Yambolinos thought they were in with a shout for winning the league.

Shame.
