Gazza will have one of those moments when he wakes up and thinks "What the **** did I do last night?"

Hardly lost the plot.

A drunk dude goes to help his mate.

Perspective here.

His mate?

He spoke to him well over a year ago, (If then) and used to know him when he played for Newcastle, so that's a good how many years ago?

It's a bit more than a drunk going to see his pal.
It's a clinically depressed celebrity alcoholic getting involved in a big news story.

Waste of a life (gazza), but then it's all been said before.

:agree:I read on another website that Moat would have only been 15 when Gazza was at Newcastle.

12 years for shooting a man dead, attempting to murder a female by shooting and attempting to murder an unarmed cop in a marked car by shooting. Threatening the lives of police and then threatening the lives of members of the public. Gazza says will be out in 6 years.

He is truly mad and somewhat sad.

I actually find that interview incredibly sad. Gascoigne is clearly a pretty ill man and his mind has gone.

I'm not sure that he is drunk in that interview by the way. I remember him being a pundit on tv a couple of years back and he sounded much the same then as he did last night. I just think his brain is so messed up after all the years of alcohol abuse that he now talks like that all the time.

He thinks that the Police are going to allow him to go for a spot of fishing with the most wanted man in the country (just because he happens to be beside the river), who is suspected of one murder, two attempted murders and who has made threats to continue shooting Police officers and the general public.

All it'll take is for him to shout "Moaty, it's Gazza" and then everything will be ok.

Anyone who comes out with stuff like that has definitely lost the plot.

Lol, hard to argue with that kind of response. I suppose he could have been an acquaintance of moat, but turning up jaked is hardly helping.

Or it's just a drunk "goin to see his pal".

Think gazza lost the plot a long time ago imo,
But I'm kind of bored now of saying things like "it's a shame".
The guy needs help but he's not going to get it, he'll be in a box first.

It's a shame....... Aw go on I said it.

to an extent i do feel sorry for gazza.

his pals are clearly not trying to help him at all and sadly i think he will end up going the same way that others have gone!

just sounds like a babbling alky in that interview

The news that Gazza was on his way with a couple of fishing rods to share a chicken sandwich and a can of lager over a chat was probably the last straw for Raoul Moat.

Why oh why would any 'friend' put him on the phone like that? He never did pick good friends

I know why Real radio did it but I also find their behaviour disgusting.

He is now just a rambling fool of a man, clearly medically very low.

'He shot someone and thats not very nice but he should get out in 6 years' - best defense since Blackadder Goes Fourth in the Pidgeon Murderer episode

Moat was a doorman on the Bigg Market for years. There are literally thousands, maybe tens of thousands of Geordies who will 'know' him by sight or claim to know him. In that respect, Gazza won't be the only one who feels as if he's Moat's 'mate', no matter what he did.

You've got to feel for Paul Gascoigne at times. It was a child like gesture from someone who clearly has no sense of perspective.

Totally cringeworthy.....

The guy is a fugitive after killing 1, and shooting 2, and Gazza wants to make him a chicken piece, and take him fishing..... Total phanny

Does anybody in the grip of alcoholism have any sense of perspective? Sad stuff.

''Moaty, it's Gazza''

''Top guy''

''Killing someone's not very nice''

Gazza is clearly deranged, the years of drug and alcohol abuse have certainly taken their toll. Horrible to see the circus his life has now become being played out in the media. He should never have been allowed on the radio.

He's beyond help.

Yes I am surprised he was given airtime too, given how drunk he sounded......

He certainly has a serious issue within himself, and cant see him being aroung much longer, given the amount of drinking the man is doing....

:agree:

Real radio are the radio equivalent of the Sunday Sport. The interviewers slimey tone is typical of a station where shock jockery rules and where news comes a distant second. As for Gazza hes a man with a multitude of problems , who has become a freakshow to be exploited by everyone from so called "mates" to the media.

I have no idea how Gazza hasn't been sectioned under the mental health act. He is clearly not well and everyone can see this. He needs help and for me shouldn't be on his own in the state he's in. So sad to see anyone like this but if people think he's just a drunk rambling on are sadly mistaken. This man is struggling with life and needs help urgently. Good luck to you Gazza i hope one day someone gives you the help you need.

He has been sectioned in the past. As a rule you can only be sectioned if you are a danger to yourself or others. Trying to take a chicken sandwich to a crazed gunman surrounded by police snipers is........hey wait a mnute!

I think this should just be put to rest tbh.

I think he should just be left to wallow in self pity, because I dont think all the media and public attention is doing him any favours.

He's just another lost cause, no big deal really.

I think it's the bizareness of the situation that is really attracting attention. He is behaving like a character from Viz, and people are bound to comment. Possibly the odd bit of attention now and again is what keeps Gazza going.

I feel truly sorry for Gazza. The simple fact is he has an addiction. Until you have been in that position yourself or seen it happen to someone close to you it is almost impossible to understand and certainly not fair to judge.

He could go one of two ways, he could realise he needs help and be willing to see it through or he could follow the George Best path and be too far gone, pushing those around him away and being quite content to drink himself to death. What a lot of people fail to realise is that it's not as simple as simply having a drink, injecting heroin, having a bet etc etc. A lot of the time there is no real desire to carry out the act but the physical or mental stress and depression is pushed back for a couple of hours and you feel okay about yourself until the need comes around again.

It truly can be the loneliest place in the world and no matter how many friends, carers, helpers etc etc try to help until the addict themselves truly resolves to change then it's pretty much a waste of time trying. It's not a case of Gazza choosing to drink, he needs to drink. One day he might find the strength to get the help he needs and see it through, he might be quite content to continue living the way he is until it's too late.

Whilst incident like the one at the weekend appear funny because people see a drunk man doing somethng stupid. What they are actually seeing is someone with a physical and mental illness acting irrationally because they have no sense of perspective.
