Complete hijack but I was on the phone to my mum a while ago at around 6:25. Mid conversation she shrieks 'Oh, I can't stand that man!!!'. Thinking I'm pre-empting a homophobic rant I say 'Och c'mon Ma just cos he's gay...' She cut in and curtly declared 'Its nothing to do with that, he's just too bloody cheery' :greengrin

On the BBC breakfast programme they asked English folk if they would be supporting Germany tonight. "Oh no, I could never support Germany" was the reply. Now, why would that be? Are they now understanding how a large number of Scots feel about themselves?

Eh? aye we are mate, I know you are well travelled (substitute that for 'old fart') but everywhere I have been (I like you am an old fart) and the Scots ARE universally respected if not loved. Here in Libya when asked "Englesi" and I reply "la Scotlanda" the response is amazing, same as everywhere else I have been from the Caribbean to the Middle East, people recognise Scots as friendly and welcoming, if somewhat drunken.

In many parts of the world they really don't differentiate between ourselves and the English until we start to protest. Perhaps they are just happy to engage in a bit of mutual England bashing.:greengrin

That did have a huge part to play, but I doubt the Kenyans or the Mexicans or the Greeks, or the Turks really give a flying one about him to be honest :greengrin Once identified as a Scotsman I have never had anything but a good reception from the host country that I am in, and remember mate, I am not the easiest person on the planet to like :faf:
