View Full Version : Racism in Bristol

A Bristol councillor was forced to apologise after she called another councillor a coconut (brown outside white inside). I don't really care what happens to this woman, but she accused the other councillor of failing to stand up for her community (presumably apartheid is in operation in Bristol).
I just want to record my disgust at this woman's divisive politics, that are on a par with anything Griffin and co. have campaigned for.
Do you mean that coconut is now a racist term?
Is being a racist mean that you just like the AA?
I remember the one about the coconut dug!

Yes coconut is racist, as is banana. The jury is still out on Kinder Surprise, but monkey nuts are still OK. Wee bit of concern creeping in re Irish Coffee, and Scotch whisky, but these are OK for the time being. Little Sambo's Popping Corn is a definite non starter, and Uncle Ben is suspect on so many fronts. Finally Camp Coffee has rebranded and is acceptable in certain circumstances, best to seek advice before using it though.

I'm quite surprised that the usual suspects haven't been all over this and calling for her to be shot. After all it is a blatantly racist comment and insinuates that there is something inferior about a particular race. Maybe they just haven't read it yet.
Or maybe we're both wrong and this form of racism is acceptable.
Excuse me...I need to go to the bathroom to wash the blood off my hands.

I hate racism, and its time some people realised it cuts both ways. For this woman to make it blatantly clear that she is fighting for a section of the community based on the colour of their skin, is a slap in the face for white people who support the anti racist cause.

What does that actually mean? Was she accusing a brown person of acting like a white person?

I think she was accusing someone of being shy.

Seems this was only raised a legal matter by an observer, not the persons involved.
It's clear Brown was trying to insult Jethwa and I have little sympathy for the resulting storm that she has caused . Considering the debate was surrounding funding for ethinic groups the comment was all the more unfortuante and to my mind was a racially motivated slur.
Still not quite what I would consider BNP or Griffin level tbh or could I see much else on her divisive politics to warrant this analogy or enough to suggest she should be shot!!

I don't really get it, brown on the outside and white on the inside. Does this mean she is brown but thinks like a whitey?
Do white people think differently from brown people?
If I get a tan do i have to start thinking like a brown person, or will I get the coconut tag as well, is it even racist if the person was originally white?
This whole racism thing confuses me!!!
Think I'll just stick to calling a spade a spade.

I think in that woman's case you'd be justified.
