Anybody else getting the train down for the friendly? Our plan is the train down around tea-time on Friday and back up Sunday evening. I understand you stop in Preston and switch trains there, does anyone have any idea how much a return from Waverley to Preston costs, and wether or not you need to book the train from Preston to Blackpool?

We've found a return for £42, first class. It is only £1 dearer than standard class.

Departing Waverley at 1812 on Friday, leaving from Preston at 1900 on the Sunday.

The hotel we're looking at is £55 for the weekend, we are required to send down a deposit although i've no idea how much that will be.

Tip for those booking the train is to book separately from Waverley-Preston and then Preston-Blackpool as the latter is a local line within the same rail region so should work out cheaper.

Is it easy enough to get a train from Preston to Blackpool on the day or should we book in advance? Also how much is it between the two?

You'll be fine on the day, plenty trains between the two though they do get very busy with day trippers. We'll be on a direct train to Blackpool either from Bolton or Wigan.

Think it's about £7 return from Preston to Blackpool.

Cheers LancashireHibby. How often do these trains run and how long do they take?

Trains run between Preston & Blackpool about every 20 minutes or so, it takes about 25 minutes to Blackpool North which is the main station in the middle of Blackpool, trains to Blackpool South are less regualr (every hour) and takes longer, dont get these trains unless your hotel is at the south end of Blackpool (near the Airport or the Pleasure Beach) or St.Annes. As previously stated by LancashireHibby fare is about £7 return.

It's £11 from Manc to Halifax so I'd say that's pretty fair considering it's £9 from Wigan to Blackpool from memory.

Not on a direct train, no. Next stop after Haymarket is generally Lockerbie.

Was at Waverley today... Those of you planning on taking the train down are better booking quick, as the prices will rise. Ours were £45 and that involves:

Depart Waverley on Friday 6th at 1812, arriving in Preston at 2045.
Depart Preston at 2119, arrive at Blackpool North 2148.

Depart Blackpool North on Sunday 8th at 1820, arriving in Preston at 1847.
Depart Preston at 1900, arrive at Waverley 2139.

Also, there are only the 4 of us booked on these trains yet couldn't get 4 seats together. Book up quick guys :agree:
