Edinburgh jazz and blues legend Tam White has died. A fabulous voice who sang the blues with the best, and was one of them himself. I recall many a great night in Preservation Hall when his first few notes could turn a wet Edinburgh night into a balmy evening in Chicago or Louisiana.

RIP Tam, and thanks for the memories

The man at his best and a fitting epitaph:

I saw Tam White and the Dexters live back in my youth and it was a great night I remember well.

RIP Tam.

Saw him sing quite often in my younger days and he used to pop into CHEERS in the High Street now and again to to catch up with some of his old muckers from the building trade. Quality guy... amazing voice.

Strangely, I picked up a couple of Fringe guides yesterday for a couple of English lads who are working up here over the summer and noticed he was playing again and thought about going. Damn.

So farewell then
Scotland's greatest blues singer
Some people called you Tam White
I think you were a lot better than that.

Really sorry to see the big man go, I remember going to see his 60th Birthday Gig at the Queens Hall, he was immense. He had a stange career, with his own STV Show in the early 70s kind of a Scottish Tom Jones show. He then disappeared and reappeared a few years on to win New Faces.

Then nothing happened and he came back again to have a residency in the Pres Hall in the 80s. I used to remember him popping into the Auld Toll in Leven Street, and - this may be through a haze - I'm sure he used to sing the odd number.

The man was a giant, and he is a sad loss to the City and to Scotland's music scene.
