Anyone on here done any sociology? I'm doing an Open Uni course and my first assessment, which is due in on Tuesday, question is

"Discuss some of the ways differences and inequalities are made on the streets of the UK"

I probably didn't do quite as much work as I'd like to have done by this point (I had already booked 2 weeks in Dominican Republic before I signed up to the course and did close to nothing whilst over there, planned to do quite a bit but it was all inclusive and very very sunny), so now I'm not as prepared for the assessment as I should have been. I also missed a tutorial while away and I think it would have been good to have been able to discuss things there...

The problem I'm having is in defining Differences and Inequalities, they keep blending into being the same things for me.

Anyone on here able to help seperate them for me?

I would say you need to decide whether to treat the intent of the question as "differences and inequalities" as meaning the same as each other, or whether "differences and inequalities" have seperate meanings.

I would say that differences are reasons that people are different from each other or have different outcomes as the result of normal, unavoidable human variations (for example, free choices) and inequalities are those variations in outcomes for people that are the result of the way in which society is organised and result in unfair or unacheivable outcomes for some people.

This would be the classic 'right/left' dichotomy that exists in interpretations of how society is/should be organised.
