But he's not, AFAIA. The golf course is happening anyway. The land at issue is for the hotel.

But the two are inextricably linked aren't they. What is the point of the course if he can't make a fortune from the hotel complex

I'm just going by what he said on the news last night. The golf course will be built soon, but the hotel might take a few years.

Despite his billions, I'd almost like to see that fud taking over the Jambos. Can you imagine the love-in that Fatty Foulkes, Gary MacKay and Steve Cardownie would have with him? They would be killing each other to give him a good rimming.

For all his billions, do you not think he could get a better Irish?

Yup probably, bullying tactics and if that doesn't work, brown envelopes. I think it's a disgrace that folk who have lived there for years can be forced out their homes and if what I remember is correct the course is being built on land that was environmentally protected. How does that get revoked

I'd love to drop him in to deepest darkest Govan wearing a Celtic replica top, a few hours after a Celtic victory over Rangers on a Saturday evening.

Welcome to Scotland ya fat yank prick.

Correct. But surely that backs up the argument that just because he has plenty money he thinks he can do what he wants.

And I am not against golf courses. You couldn't get me off them when I was younger and I was off 7 at one point, love the game, but no one can say that we are lacking in quality courses in this country can they. It's not about the golf or the hotel anymore imo, it's about him trying to prove he can get what he wants when he wants and because of that he can gtf for me.

He might be an odious git with funny hair but the golf course has overwhelming public backing up here. Maybe that's because we have to face the fact that North Sea oil is going to run out fairly soon and future jobs have to come from somewhere. Of course we could just tell him to stick his multi million pound investment in our local economy and leave the next generation with even less of a future. That'll show him.:agree:

Only in Scotland would someone who is prepared to invest a huge sum into an area desperate for jobs and an over reliance on one industry get the abuse and obstuction that Trump has received.

I though his comments were spot on, the guys property is a total dump....all the hot air about wanting to protect the environment etc yet his own property was a total and utter eyesore.

Sure Trump has an abrassive style and he is of course doing this to make money (seen as some sort of sin by some) but I really think some of the resistance he has received over this project is misguided at best.

Agree 100% J.

Have to say though that calling the property a slum whilst accurate in description does nothing to aid Trump's argument. It may be a slum but it's someone's home and from what I heard when they spoke to the slum dweller there's more chance of Romanov telling the truth than there is of Trump buying that land.

I was also both amused and perplexed by the 'protest group' who are trying to motivate up to 15,000 people to buy little bits of land from the farmer so that compulsory purchase would be a nightmare for the Council to process. Where do these tree huggers come from I wonder?

I understand and agree with what both Marinello and Andy74 have said in their posts. I am not close enough to Aberdeen to know the current economic situation and I can't remember there being anything on tv that showed how anyone knew the overall view of the locals, but your para 2 above is what annoyed me last night.

All I saw was Trump spouting a load of abuse about someone who lived on land he needs. I could use all the adjectives to describe Trumps look, manner etc but that is irrelevant really. He does not come from this country and needs to learn some manners. Just because he is loaded gives him no right to behave the way he is.

And I don't know much about tree huggers and I definitely would not be classed as "green" in an enviromental context but I'd buy one :agree: .................and so would Gramo :greengrin

i don't really like Trump but i support his project & i also support Sir Ian Woods City Square project, Aberdeen & the rest of the North East is in much need of investment & that investment will have to come largely from private sources as the councils have no money left. people seem to automatically object to change in this country but i find it pointless when it's a change for the good. hopefully the North East can be regenerated for future generations as at the moment i feel it is struggling & oil will not last forever.

I just don't like all this "it's all about me" stuff.

Re-naming sand dunes and photos of him with clubs in amongst them.

I'm sorry but this country is sacred to me and I don't like people with money coming in and thinking they can do what they like. There are some things money can't buy...such as class.

It might be great for certain aspects of the economy but what does it say about us when he can just come and transform a piece of our land for his own gain? Where will it stop?

It's not on my turf but I'd be annoyed if this guy strode into where I was living and wanted to do this...regardless of the consequences.

It's not only british institutions like football clubs but it's now our land that is being whored out to all and sundry.

I disagree about the Sir Ian Wood point. It will cement over the only green space in a largely grey city centre. And there's a massive hole in the funding, and as far as I can't see what purpose it will serve. While on the other hand the arts centre would have added a bit of culture to what is largely a culture void.

Anyway.

I don't like the way that Trump has managed to basically bully his way into getting this done. It's great that he wants to build a golf course here, but it has to fit within our laws. And what does it matter if someone's house is a 'slum', it's their own property, and stinks of a billionaire not used to being told no.
As for the jobs argument... What jobs? The hotel will largely be staffed by cheap labour (a mixture of immigrant and students) and I don't think that a golf course employs that many people.

Can't help but think you guys are missing the point here.

Yes, Trump is a big mouthed Yank who thinks nothing of insulting a man by calling his house a slum BUT he is investing huge sums of money in the North East, creating many jobs and helping Aberdeen and surrounding area cope with the fall away of the oil industry.

Insensitive he may be and big mouthed too but if you read some of the posts on this thread by people who live in and around Aberdeen you might just understand why your comments are ill informed

Wow where do you start with this wee rant....so because he's not 'British' and because he might actually stand to gain from investing his own millions into a project Scotland is now whoring it's land??

Also he can't 'just transform a piece of our land for his own gain'...his application has followed a long and difficult passage through the required planning permission and was even reffered to the Scottish Government if iirc so it's not quite how you have painted it is it.

Lots of different issues here in my opinion. However abusing a Yank for coming is a tad harsh I reckon. How much of our land is owned by Arabs and engerlish?
