Where does this climatic conceit originate from? It long predates the Proclaimers song, but does anybody know when the fair port started to be described, or describe itself in that way, and what the origins of this were?

TBH I'm not sure it's a fair description, I'm looking out my window right now in leith and all I can see is darkness:confused:

The term "Sunny Leith" goes back a long long way!
My Dad, a Leither born in 1924, used the phrase all the time .... so if there are any oldtimers out there, maybe you could let us know the origin of the term?
