Anyone know if its possible to rent a car in the uk without having held a license for 1 year? If so, where? Need access to a car but only held my license since January but everywhere i've found so far wants 1 years experience.

99.9% sure you won't be able to. Every hire car company I have ever used has that restriction in place.

A lot of them will also charge you an additional amount if you are under 25, some places won't even rent you a car.

I tried to hire a people carrier to go to Newcastle and turned up and they wouldn't give me that car because I only had my license for less than a year and was 21/22 at the time despite them telling me on the phone that they were willing to waive these restrictions. I wasn't pleased!

Try the city car club?

You have to be 19 to join, but i dont think you have to have held a liscense for a year.

Can rent cars out for the weekend or 24 hours etc

Good shout for those under 21 but you do have to have had a licence for a year

Thanks for all the comments. Have to say that i think its a crazy restriction, i have some mates that haven't driven since the day they passed their tests (and we're talking a good few years) that could go rent a car... doesn't make much sense but doesn't seem a whole lot that i can do.
