Where to stay in Liverpool?

Mrs Radge has never been to Liverpool before so I'm going to take her there for a day or so, but I'm not sure which hotel to book.

I've stayed in the Atlantic Tower before, but wasn't too impressed.

Do you have any recommendations? And why, please.

I was in the Atlantic Tower early last month and it was fine.

I wasn't paying but I'd have been happy if I were. Breakfast was good.

Thistle usually have some decent deals.

My other half gave it 3/5 on Tripadvisor (reviewer: MintTea)

The Adelphi. The Balmoral might look like it if it was in Liverpool, beautiful marble walls, which suddenly run out into peeling flock wallpaper, having doubtlessly been thieved by local builders.

A wonderful, ornate Victorian establishment full of character, which actually looks shabbier and more down-at-heel round the edges following every renovation it has. I think the builders actually just go in and rob the fixtures and fittings rather than replace them.

For a five star hotel it has the arbitrary pricing policy of a jakey vendors stall in the Barras, it can be dirt cheap or exorbitant, depending on who you talk to and when.
