Any word on our own rising star's next fight? He's been in LA training with Freddy Roach and must be due in action soon.

he was on the RJJ-B-Hop undercard in early April, and won.

was most recently talking about his dream - a world title fight at ER....

reckons his uncle sponsors us and would be able to tie it the ER side of it.

i think he has to be careful, training with Roach must have been terrific for him, but he has little support base at present because he's never had exposure in his home country, and he's too dangerous for guys above him to risk fighting - i can see him struggling to get the breakthrough fight he's going to need at this rate. all he brings to the table at present is a very tough fight for any opponent......

If he's with Roach, I'm sure he'll be in action soon, and that it'll be a tough opponent. Freddy is not known for wrapping his fighters in cotton wool.

He's now doing a blog at the STV website, its a cracking read:
http://sport.stv.tv/boxing/176801-craig-mcewan-from-wester-hailes-to-west-hollywood/

superhibi1, what i mean is that Craig is probably ready for a step up in quality of opposition now, but he needs someone of quality to want/ be willing to fight him. its easier to get that fight if you're bringing cash to the table with a core support (e.g. Mitchell getting the fight with Katsidis - if that fight had been in Lewisham Leisure Centre in front of 1000 folk Katsidis wouldn't have travelled half way round the world for it). Frank Warren was able to tap into the West Ham supporters and Mitchell already had an audience in London, and with Sky hyping it up they were able to put on a bit money show to attract Katsidis. plus i think Katsidis probably fancied his chances.

what Craig seems to have though is a great attitude and presentable, likeable character and i suspect thats what Golden Boy are buying into - if the boxing takes care of itself, McEwen is going to be a crossover star. and GB should be able to ensure he gets the fights he needs now too.

its looking good for him imo.

The lads doing well pretty much still unheralded over here but quietly going about his business in the States. A world title shot could beckon next year if he keeps improving.

Just as a matter of interest do you know if Freddie Roach works Craigs corner during fights?

Obviously he's training him at the Wild Card but i remember when Freddie was Alex Arthurs trainer he wasn't in the corner for the Michael Gomez fight and Alex looked absolutely lost when things weren't going his way.
