I wonder if David Cameron maybe thinks that the Home Secretary does the cooking and cleaning as well as the photocopying?

"Women should be restricted to menial tasks such as housework and secretarial work" would be a sexist post.
"I wonder if David Cameron maybe thinks that the Home Secretary does the cooking and cleaning as well as the photocopying?" was NOT a sexist post.

Anne Widdecombe a feminist? I don't think so.

Oh I don't know, I'm sure there are some men who would fancy her.

Why would that make her a feminist?

Well, unless I'm reading it wrong, a feminist is a feminine character - definition 3 in http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/feminist
Now, our dear Ann is undeniably a character even if you don't rate her looks.

May is pretty hopeless. As Work and Pensions shadow she seemed to have the impression that Job Centres were in the business of offering people jobs.
She said that anyone who refuses three jobs in a row should have their benefit cut. If she had ever been in a Job Centre, which I doubt, she would know that the staff just point the punters towards the computer screens and get on with planning for their early retirement and far too generous pensions!
Most job seekers would be delighted to be "offered" a job!

You're right! Spot on, thanks because I always thought it was the first two (the ones you didn't quote). :greengrin
Now I'm just away out to see if I can find any crack. I'm trying to give up fags.

So did I - it's amazing what you can turn up in the course of a pointless discussion (mind you, it does rather look like a mistake to me).
Anyway - good luck with the fags. Get yourself outside and go for a walk in the park.

Well, when women are involved, what other kind of discussion is there? :dunno: :duck:

The last time i was in the Job Centre i noted the numbers of 10 jobs and went and stood in the queue.
I could not believe my ears when i was told i was only allowed to pick 3 at a time and would need to go to the back of the queue again.
Silly me actually trying to get a job in the job centre rather than signing on:bitchy:
I remember sitting down with the guy and all he done was read out loud the details on the card that i had just read and jotted down the phone number for me to phone. He didnt give a toss:rolleyes:

I'm sorry but I disagree with you about the job centre. My experience wasn't like that. When I signed on the staff always made a point of going through jobs that they thought I might be interested in, going on information gathered by them from me at my initial interview. If I said I wasn't interested, this was fine, any that I was interested in was noted down on my file and I was expected to apply for it. I was never once directed to the computers to look for a job.

Depends on the Job Centre I suppose. The point I was making about May was that she clearly thought claimants were offered jobs as a matter of course like in the old Labour Exchange days. The fundamental difference nowadays is that the job seeker is expected to take the initiative more - taking responsibility for their predicament as it were rather than being guided. Thanks to Mrs T for that I think.
I am not a nanny state fan particularly but I do think a large number of the unemployed need a good deal of TLC.

Fair point. I can only go on my own recent experience as I have never been unemployed before. I never expected to be offered a job and fully expected that I would have to find one myself. Varying experiences with job centre staff, ranging from helpful to downright rude.
