Sounds interesting would imagine more for right back however useful he can play centre back also. Good age and sounds like he has had a decent season given the number of player of the year awards he has won. Saw a glimpse of a couple of Leeds/Carlisle games a few months ago and Carlisle looked a half decent outfit so would imagine he would strengthen our team.

Would we have to pay compensation given that Keogh would be coming from a 'foreign' country?

On the face of it though, I'd be happy with such a signing. IMO scouring the English lower leagues is the best way to find the physical edge our team needs. It is a much tougher and stronger game down there and players such as Keogh would be well-equipped to do a job for us.

There are exceptions, but Jones and Killen would be obvious examples of English-based journeymen doing such a job. Big seasoned and hardened pros are just what we need.

Totally agree with this point. Players from the lower English leagues tend to fit in really well with the Scottish leagues. :agree:

Good point. I think that it would be a good idea to bring in the players to fill the necessary roles in defence and centre midfield role from the lower end of Championship and League 1.

Let the other creative / skillful positions be the roles we hold onto our existing players (Miller/Stokes/Riordan) or look to spend that little bit more in the transfer market.

Using Keogh as an example , 6ft plus , phyically strong , used to playing 40 odd games a season so fitness shouldn't be an issue. 4 or 5 of these guys in the team surrounded by Miller , Wotherspoon, Riordan and Stokes and you have a team that would walk 3rd place.

Remember that we will have the 20k plus stadium , East Mains and European football to use as an attraction for players. Shouldn't be that hard to get these sort of players into our team on similar wages

Fair point:greengrin

But I'd say that says more about our squad's deficiencies than any would-be signing policy.

I'm actually an advocate of such a youth policy - to paraphrase your words '6ft+ defensive minded players who can play tough and take responsibility only'

A bit of Craig Levein-style affirmative action is just what we need!

Worth saying twice. Surely we are more appealing now than ever before, what with the infrastructure at the club and european football.

Hopefully we can add a dominant center half and a tall midfielder and the elusive right back.

The "cult hero" label is often a good sign as it tends to mean the player has a bit of dig and character about them which has won the fans over in numbers - so without knowing that much about him he sounds like the kind of player we need.

Just a bit worrying that the gaff's been blown this early. If he's worth our while, he'll be on other teams' radar as well.

He looks exactly the sort of guy we need for the back four.

Preston paid the Sheep around £100,000 for Hart in 2008. He's 30, so he'd add a bit of experience to the defence, and you don't survive in the Championship without being able to look after yourself.

Here's hoping.

That was then, this is now. I've always (with the exception of a couple of slightly alchohol/rage fuelled comments following the Murderwell disgrace) said this pre-season and the first couple of months of next season will be the making or breaking of Yogi.

He seems to be going about the rebuilding in the right way - no serious mentions of more midget, left footed central midfielders or goalkeepers yet!!

:agree:

If Preston hadn't sacked their manager around the time we were trying to procure Hart in January, the second half of the season could well have been a lot different imo.

If we do get him, hopefully it will be a case of him being worth the wait, and a firm demonstration to some impatient fans that it's better to wait for the right man for the job.

:agree: Yup.

If we can get the defenders in to plug the holes in the back four we'll actually have a pretty decent squad when everyone's fit.

One or two in-and-out deals to improve quality and I'll begin to calm down and look forward to August....

Richard Keogh is taking time to consider his options before deciding whether to sign a new contract at Carlisle United.
The 23-year-old, who swept the board at the club's player of the year awards, is out of contract this summer and has been linked with Hibernian. (http://topics.skysports.com/hibernian/?section=football)http://static.lingospot.com/spot/image/spacer.gif
He has been offered a deal to stay at Brunton Park and Keogh (http://topics.skysports.com/Richard+Keogh/?section=football)http://static.lingospot.com/spot/image/spacer.gif will give Carlisle (http://topics.skysports.com/carlisle/?section=football)http://static.lingospot.com/spot/image/spacer.gif a response upon his return from holiday.
Keogh said: "After talks with the manager and an offer from the club for me to re-sign, the manager has given me some time to think it over.
"I will be taking a holiday and will consider my options with regards to my future.
"I've had an excellent spell at Carlisle and find it very difficult to think of playing football (http://topics.skysports.com/playing+football/?section=football)http://static.lingospot.com/spot/image/spacer.gif elsewhere.
"I'm grateful to the manager for the time he's giving me to make a decision and thank everyone for the continuing support."
