25 years to the day on Tuesday 11th May when 56 football fans were killed and more than 270 injured. I remember listening to the radio coverage and it was shocking to listen to. I cannot believe what it would be like for those at Valley Parade that day. Spare a thought for those affetced by that tragedy.

I remember watching this in total disbelief at the time, thankfully most stadia are now certificated and have to pass safety standards.

Not sure how accurate it is but when I had fire safety training a while back, the fireman taking it told us that the first person to call 999 and report the fire was a woman watching it all unfold on TV. I suppose it was the case that everyone at the ground thought that someone else would do it :bitchy:

Watched the live footage on YouTube again the other day and it was shocking the speed at which it travelled the length of the old wooden stand. People were climbing out of the stand with their clothes smoking and I saw one guy appear out of the stand a few minutes after everyone else walking around the track while in flames from head to toe before everyone ran over to put him out! Shocking stuff and still makes you draw breath today.

Fair play also to the old bill there that day - brave as **** trying to get folk out and running back in to drag people out. :agree:

:boo hoo: RIP

I moved to Bradford the week after the fire and a few months later my new sergeant was the cop with his hair on fire in the footage. Smashing bloke but badly affected. Played footie with the guys who did the body recovery at the rear of the stand, again, they had the thousand yard stare....Respect to everybody, cops and civilians who risked everything that day.

I remember this very well as I was in Germany at the time stationed with friends who had friends / family at the game. Human reaction to these situations are indeed bizarre; it was a tragic event for all of football but hopefully it will never happen again. It will never be forgotten...

How about the main stand at Tynecastle?

I am sure that they have been given relaxations in the certification for some years.

The only real change has been the smoking ban.
