View Full Version : That was the players fault, not Yogi's.

Shutting diwn the midfield and defending a three gial lead was the correct thing to do fir Hibs on Wednesday. If anyone thinks differently they have not seen Hibs play much this season. Which front/attacking midfielder that was chosen to come off is probably up fir debate.but the substitution and fornation change isn't.
Colin Nish has said himself that the forward players were not doing their job properly and that was a contributing factor in the result or words to that effect.
ive got a motherwell fan at my work, and he had to be told to stay put at 6-2 by his old man.one of the first things he said on thursday morning was that the well defenders were unable to get their head up and play a pass but after it went to 6 that all changed.
despite all that ive seen teams with 9 men defend a 1 goal lead better than we defended a 4 goal one so i dont think the forwards should have ANY blame having more than done their job at the right end.

It's a team game. Defending from the front is a must when teams are coming at you. I agree we should be defending from the midfield and defence better but if the forwards stop doing what they were doing when we were 6-2/3 up this puts pressure on the midfield which in turn puts pressure on the defence. Yes they could still have done better but the forwards have to bear some if the responsibility. As I said even Colin Nish has aknowledged this. They can't be absolved of all responsibility.

im mostly agreeing with you in any normal game but i think its outragous to suggest 2 banks of 4, with decent positional play cant stop a team like motherwell from scoring 4 goals in 25 mins.
for me the guys in the middle stopped doing what they were doing and started punting the ball as soon as they got it and the least said about the defending the better.the strikers scored 6 goals and to hear yogi mention them as partly culpable on the way home astonished me and had me doubting him for the first time.

Teams who go down to 10 or even 9 men rarely if ever lose 4 goals in the last 30 mins of games, so I don't see how any substitutions shoudl have some how contributed to the complete collapse of our defence. OK, the forwards could have done more, ok or midfield is pretty poor, but to lose 4 in 30 min (and a missed pen) is quite unique.

That Hibs defensive collapse will be shown the world over - and our back 4 and goalie will forever be associated with it - well done lads :grr:
