the motivation guru that was brought in to boost our team's confidence way back in January? I hope Rodders has asked for his money back as things haven't quite gone to plan really. In fact they seem to have had a reverse effect!

He met some Hibs fans, gave up his vocation as he'd found the only miserable bar stewards he couldn't cheer up and topped himself in April.

It's obvious isn't it?

He lost any motivation he had as a, erm, motivational guru.

There are several schools of thought on this. Most of them have done scientific research.

It's one thing to know what motivates you, but it doesn't qualify you to say what motivates others.

Just a thought. How come if people are only at work for the money, they whine about their boss not paying enough attention to them, or that they don't like their co-workers etc? If all they were worries about was money, then surely these things wouldn't bother them.

The studies in this area suggest that the things that motivate people are different than the things that demotivate them. Money doesn't motivate people to perform better at work. If you have somebody cleaning the toilets at Tynecastle, they won't be motivated to perform the task any better if you give them £5 per hour or £5,000 per hour. They're still cleaning a s-hithouse. However, they won't leave.

Positive motivators are regarded largely about the quality of the relationships people have at work, how much they feel valued, listened to, and have issues they are interested in openly addressed, as well as opportunities for personal growth and advancement. They you get better performance.
