Who and what are people backing then? not 100% sure myself but this is what im thinking:

Spain to win at 4/1

Messi top scorer and Argentina to win at 20/1

Group Winners - A Mexico 7/2, B Argentina 4/9, C England 1/3, D Germany 4/5, E Holland 8/13, F Italy 1/2, G Brazil 8/13, H Spain 1/4 - 76/1

anybody have and idea of a long shot top scorer to take each way?

For an each way, id say.....

Van Persie @ 33/1
Higuain @ 20/1
Klose @ 25/1
Tevez @ 50/1

Maybe not the best strikers in the tournament but theyre all first picks (I think) and their teams will go far in the competition.

I've already got £20 on Villa (10/1) and £10 on Luis Fabiano (14/1) outright, think odds on both have dropped since, i put my bets on at turn of the year.

Not sure about the 2 in bold. I've went for:

£20.00 Brazil to win world cup (6.2 betfair)
£5.00 Germany to win world cup (15 betfair)
£5.00 Netherlands to win world cup (15.5 betfair)
£4 ew Fabiano top scorer(12/1, first 5 place)
£1 ew Klose top scorer(28/1, first 5 place)
£20.00 Rooney - Top English Scorer(11/4)
£25.00 USA to beat Slovenia 13/10
£5.00 Algeria to beat Slovenia 12/5
£20.00 Paraguay to beat Slovakia Evens
£5.00 Denmark to beat Cameroon 2/1

I'll probably lay the Brazil, Germany and Netherlands bets. Possibly the USA bet as well.

I think Van Persie is a great shout. The only problem I can see is that may have a number of players scoring goals rather than a main goalscorer.

Does he still play in the national team?

I think so, haven't heard anything about him retiring anyway. My only doubt is whether he'd get a game or not with the likes of Van Persie, Huntelaar, Babel, Robben and Kuyt bound to be in the squad.

Scrap that bet then, Tevez and Klose it is.

I'm not sure they start either. I put a £1 ew on Klose but then looked at Germany's previous games and he's been coming off the bench. Gomez might be better value at 40s.

Maybe, i'm just looking to go for strikers that are playing for a country that is likely to go far in the tournament. Even Drogba would be a good shout if Ivory Coast get through what appears to be the 'group of death'.

Van nisrelrooy is retired from international.

Also for anyone betting on spain xavi is injured and looks like he is going to miss the world cup but is still going to play for barca for the last games of season so some of you might want to take this into account before betting as he is a big loss for spain.

Brazil to win the world cup.

Spain runners up

RVP Top goalscorer.

And world cup winners elect England to keep blowing there own trumpet and get horsed in the qaurters..AGAIN.

I look for a penalty taker who can also score in normal play for better value. If your lucky he'll be awarded a couple of pens throughout the tournament and for a possible goalscorer like, say, Lampard, it's a big start.

Paraguay, Mexico and Uruguay are all at great prices for a wee each way bet.

Betfair are offering 75s on Mario Gomes if you fancy it. Does Anelka start for France as they got him at 110s. Forlan to:thumbsup:.

I think the more intresting bet is for the Golden Ball Award. Always find it has more value than top goal scorer.

Argentina at 9/1 must be tempting some people.

Fair enough they were gash in qualifying and Maradonna is clueless but with the players they have got they might just be worth a sneaky £10.

:agree:

argentina and germany are my tips.

Argentina because i like backing teams that don't peak too early and the Germans as they're always there or there about, plus i think they might have a bit extra motivation to do it for that keeper that died during the qualifiers.

Can't remember what they're groups are like though

Good shout about pens but I reckon Rooney will take any England get.
