She might not be standing in the Westminster election, but check out your local Lib Dem cooncillor's inferences about Easter Road (the street, not the stadium):

Councillor Thomas said: "It has been an asset to Easter Road to have, dare I say it, an upmarket place like this. So it is extremely disappointing to have a premises like this suffer these problems."
Yes Cooncillor Thomas, I'm sure you're all for the gentrification of the Royal Nip and would love to see the rag and bone and brickabrack men on Easter Road shut up shop to be replaced by botique delicatessens.
Why don't you just stay in Joppa and leave us Leithers in peace?

Snooty cow, I like it for selling foreign beers I can't get elsewhere. I'm surprised "rif raf" like me's allowed in.

Sadly typical of the attitude to be found in many of the arrivistes. Cornelius is a very good shop, I feel for the guy, especially as he has held his hands up.
As for the councillor, I take it she's not local?

To be honest I havent a clue what there is for you to be upset about.
Cornelius is an upmarket shop, it is an asset to Easter Road and it is disappointing for it to have to be closed for two weeks.
I can't see what this woman has done in anyway to have accusations of "snooty cow" levelled at her. The guy made a mistake, held his hands up and got punished for it, and a local politician made an essentially harmless ocmment on it when asked. Whats the problem?

Yup, I don't understand what she's to be criticised for. As far as the article goes, if it hadn't been for the Lib Dem councillor then the shop in question may have received a 4 week suspension.
I'm assuming that this is about the OP worrying about the Lib Dems winning Edinburgh North and Leith in the general election.

It's patronising at best to Easter Road to say "jolly good an upmarket shop there for a change" . So should we shout down all the peasents' shops like the 2nd hand furniture shops, those ghastly greasy spoons and that frightful fish and chips shop? What makes a beer shop selling foreign stuff so special? Not having a go at the owner btw just the condescending bint.

1. Yes, if it's really important enough that you might have an opinion about it.
2. Because it's not a 2nd hand furniture shop, a ghastly greasy spoon or a frightful fish and chip shop.

I like to think of Greggs as "The People's Deli".

Still think youre being monumentally touchy, and looking for offence where there is none. Your line "jolly good an upmarket shop there for a change" is a very particular spin on what she said. Do you object to undenyably upmarket shops being onEaster Road. Are you saying its not good for the area/street? There is no suggestion I can see whatsoever about doing anything to the "peasants shops, greasy spoons of chippers". Nothing condescending I can see.

Oh right I get it, because Easter Road is meant to be 'working class' we should actively discourage any upgrade or support to the standard of shops it contains.
Lets face it Easter Road could do with a face lift, the street scape is an appalling mess and a few more shop keepers prepared to invest in their stores at the same time wouldn't hurt either...there was a thread on here recently about inverse snobbery..the two posts above are a perfect example of it. :bitchy:

I've been thinking about this. Why would Leithers care about what happened at the Edinburgh end of Easter Road anyway?
