Referee Charlie Richmond could lose his Grade One status after failing to send off St Mirren's Stephen O'Donnell for handling the ball on the line against St Johnestone [sic] last weekend. (The Sun)

Just had a look at the highlights of St. J v St. M (http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/scotland/8628614.stm) in light of this (go to near the end, it was for a last minute penalty that gave St. J an equaliser). It is a ridiculous decision, my only guess is that he failed to identify the player who handled the ball.

Mind you, wasn't there a similar decision in the first Hamilton v Hibs game? The referee involved there (David Somers (http://www.soccerbase.com/refs2.sd?refid=269)) continued to ref SPL games for a few months afterwards, but he hasn't taken charge of one since early December, the Hamilton v Hearts game where umpteen Jambos were sent off. Looks like he's being sent to Coventry for his handling of that game.

THe amount of time I post threads will decrease considerably when this nonentity gets punted .
He sails through games in his own wee world - like his friend before him Frieland who I see is now on the SFA's refereee's committee .

You've changed your tune I remember you saying Richmond's a great ref and if anything gives Hibs too much.

"Liverpool are lining up a bid for Rangers' £8m-rated teenage defender Danny Wilson, with the youngster being loaned back to the Ibrox club next season."

£8 million, who honestly values wilson at that price?

When I saw the thread title, I thought this might be a new reality-TV show.

You know - take an SFA referee, committee man, blazer, chief executive, whoever - give him 15 minutes start, then go after him with dogs and guns.

Now I'm all disappointed. :boo hoo:

"Hunt the Numptie" - we wouldn't have to confine ourselves to SFA people, either.

Politicians, 'celebs', media-people....

Now, would you have Ant & Dec hunted one at a time, over two programs, or together, as a sort of 'Season Finale' special?

Bows and arrows, guns, or samurai swords?

The presenter would have to be Burt Kwouk, from 'Banzai'. And the baldy Banzai!!!! bloke as well.

And each week you have three candidates for the following week - say, Charlie Richmond, George Ffoulkes, or that ghastly woman on the "You're worth it" adverts.

Viewers can vote for the 'huntee' of their choice, but unlike on other TV polls, they can vote for AS MANY OF THE CANDIDATES AS THEY WISH, and they can vote AS OFTEN AS THEY WISH FOR EACH CANDIDATE.

So if you really wanted to see George Ffoulkes disembowelled and torn limb from bloated limb (and what right-minded viewer wouldn't want to see that?) you'd have to vote early, vote often, and KEEP VOTING until your man had won the poll.

£1 a vote, we'd make an absolute killing. In every sense of the word.

Please tell me - can you REALLY see a down-side, Jim?

T-shirts, video games, cuddly toys, after-sales DVD issues....

No more JOHN PRESCOTT? ROBERT KILROY-SILK? ANDY CAMERON?

You KNOW it makes sense.

"Hunt the Numptie"

Thats an absolute topper of a game show format!

Real live dogs would be an essential feature and a small amount of padding by way of protection for Charlie and the like.

The venues could be changed week by week from swampy terrain to forests and other wildernesses.

I think it would be nescessary to engineer in a bit of surprise too like "This is your Life" or Charlie and his ilk wouldn't show up.
You could imagine the show starting with a hushed studio audience awaiting the arrival of the numptie and then the horror on his face as he sees the audience, the game show host shouts "Charlie Richmond you are this weeks NUMPTIE !"and the hounds are released.

Its a winner

I still await confirmation of Lennon beng carpetted for having a massive strop when jumping up , lnding on his knees and thumping the ground - all outside of the technical area, but no doubt the 4th official/linesman/referring supervisor and video editor all missed that alleged incident, even though it was shown on TV.

:bitchy:

I was arguing with someone on this a few days ago as i didn't think Wilson was worth £3M yet just because of 'potential' as he has only had 14 league games his whole career. But £8M is an absolute joke, i think it's just because Rangers know cause it's big clubs tracking him that they will be able to get more cash out of them.

Anybody remember Richmond's 'performance' at home V Falkirk a few years back. Laughable to be perfectly honest. The fact he is regarded as one of the best ref's in the country says it all about the standard of refereeing in Scotland.

That game doesn't ring any bells with me mate?

I remember him having a shocker against Motherwell and the normally placid Mowbray managing to get a row from him. He stopped play, didn't let us take the free-kick quickly so he could chat with the person who committed the foul, but not book them.

He always seemed to be in need of a rest but I thought recently he had improved.

:faf: Very true.

Also he hates to see teams getting gubbed, so if you go a few goals up then you can expect to get zero decisions your way until the other team has drawn level.

We were once three nil up in a game and cruising - Latto was magnificent however as he singlehandedly rescued an unlikely three all draw for the opposition with a string of bizarre decisions :applause:

Think that may have been freeland, could be either of two cases:

1) Hibs go 2-0 up in first half, at 2-2 in the second, a blatant passback to the keeper is ignored and while the Hibs players argue Falkirk run off to score the winner...

or:

2) 4 men sent off (Thomson and Brown, after full time, for Hibs and a sub, possibly Liam Craig, and one other for them). Never gave us anything all day and was blatantly biased the whole game...

I grant you Charlies not very good , kaak infact but compaired to that prick Alan ( look at me ) Freeland hes world class.
Freeland stopped a season ago , I think ,much to the delight of, Scottish ,European and World football but as we all know it he was bound to turn up in some back water countries Football Association as a adviser on a refereeing committee ,cant help thinking that may have been the final straw for Gogs .
As to the Hibs V Falkirk match mentioned Alan F at his best making a complete cock of himself .
IMHO the most inept man ever to officiate at a football match at ANY level

I was at the game and the decision was an absolute farce!

The highlights dont really show the total incompetence of the situation.

Richmond gave nothing at the time and let the game carry on, he was then surrounded by St J players and decided to walk over to his linesman (who had also given nothing). They spent a couple of minutes chatting and then Richmond went on a walkabout checking the numbers on the back of St Mirren players shirts. Didn't book anyone during this process and eventually sauntered into the box and gave a penalty! The whole incident would easily have taken up at least 4-5 minutes when in reality, if he'd actually seen it, he could have blown for the penalty and sent off the player in less than 20 seconds!

To be fair, it was the right decision to give the penalty but it was more a case of getting lucky and stumbling into it than good refereeing.

If he did it was probably for dissent after the penalty award. Is there somewhere you can find out what the booking was for?

Was it not the same player though, gave the impression on the highlights programme it was for the handball, maybe not.

That game against Motherwell under Mowbray is one of the worst Refereeing performances I've seen.

I got that angry at one point that I lost the ability to say any words and just shrieked at the top of my voice.

Didn't he have to get escorted off the pitch at the end because the crowd was that angry?
