Probably because the judge is a senile old git who reeks of pish because his incontinence pants leak! Take off his wig and his hair will be the same colour IF he has any!!

Years upon years of study and practice and yet they still come out with decisions like this which beggar belief!

What can you say that hasn't been said before?

Unbelievable. What a world we live in.

Don't worry.

They'll be fully rehabilitated and monitored after their sentence is complete.

Sorry, I should have said this earlier. Please remember that it ain't 12 months in jail, its a 12 month sentence. Which means they will probably be in jail for 6 months, then on probation for 6 months.

Just thought I'd make that point before Steve-O wakes up. :greengrin

Heard it on the radio last night, just read the full details, it's another tragic case of child neglect in our society.

I'd imagine they got 12 months because the charge was child neglect, which doesn't carry huge sentences.

The neglect makes unbelievable reading, however they did not kill the child, so that is the sentence.

It's not the Judge's fault, he can only go on whatever sentences are available on those charges, and I imagine a 12 month sentence is fairly high up on the scale for that particular offence, no matter what the circumstances.

Actually, I just found this -

Under current laws, parents who do not provide their children with regular meals and drinks face being convicted of child neglect, which carries a maximum sentence of 10 years in prison.

So, perhaps you are all correct, the sentence is on the light side I must admit.

Sadly child neglect and abuse has always been with us. Children 1st are over 125 years old, and anyone who is upset by this sort of thing can donate here:

Absolutely disgusting!

How anyone could do that to thier own child (any child..) is beyond belief.

They obviously thought thath if the ignored the "problem" it would go away (out of sight; out of mind :grr:).

How can a guy get a life sentence for robbing an old ladies hourse which resulted in her having a heart attack whilst these two excuses for human beings get off very lightly with only 12 months after thier irresponsible neglect directly lead to the death of a disabled child.

Consistency anyone....

I would like to know what mitigating circumstances were offered up for a 12 month sentence on this pair. Other cases of neglect have usually meant a couple of years.

I'm surprised no one has blamed social work yet.

It's just that in this day of social security monies, child benefit etc and government bodies to watch over these things, it's still occurring.

Judges are, in my opinion, where the justice system is at its weakest. I think too many (probably all) are far too removed from the society in which most of us live. There are far too many (probably all) who are more wrapped up in their own importance than is good for them – and us.

These are my observations from being a juror and witness, rather than a defendant :cool2:

While we don’t have all the facts there's enough in this story to suggest 6 months inside for neglect, leading to the death, of this wee girl.

How often have we seen similar? Or in fact worse!

Some things beggar belief. I recently heard about a child in Fife who had to take herself to nursery in the morning because her mother was "incapacitated" in bed. The kid was three years old!!!!

Social work seemed to think it was in the child's best interests to keep it with the mother. I just can't see the logic in that at all.

As you say, a lot of money and resources are getting thrown at the problem. I

This is not true of the Judges I have worked alongside I must say. Alas, that is here in New Zealand and not in the UK.

Seriously though, the Judges I know are surprisingly down to earth and quite aware of the outside world unlike these ones that are sometimes reported in the media as having never heard of Oasis (I seem to recall this being reported at one point) etc.:agree:
