..thought Saint Peter had Celtic blood running through his veins, was a Celtic captain, one of the few who knew what it was like to be at such a big club, etc....

not been around long but must admit, my impression was that with him coming in and seemingly shoving his way inbetween Mowbray and Venus I thought he might be next in line for the Celtic job.

The fact he's been emptied too, says to me things had already happened and a new management team will already be agreed, prior to last night.

The Toaods pound will not be on Csaba though....:faf:

I was astonished to hear Veno had been at Celtic as well. He was about as anonymous as Brian Kerr...

Still reckon Lambert might make an appearance at Darkheid sooner rather than later...although some of the greatest fans in the world who I'm erm, lucky enough to know, want Mark Hughes. :cool2:

Question is
Who in their right mind would want to manage Celtic ?
It's a "poisoned chalice" when you look at the list over the past 20 years

Liam Brady 1991–1993
Lou Macari 1993–1994
Tommy Burns 1994–1997
Wim Jansen 1997–1998
Jozef Vengloš 1998–1999
John Barnes 1999–2000
Kenny Dalglish 2000
Martin O'Neill 2000–2005
Gordon Strachan 2005–2009
Tony Mowbray 2009–2010

How many of that lot are still in management ?

Pity the poor sod who is daft enough to take it on :dummytit:

That is a bit tight, don't you think?

After all he has supported them all his life, and it is the only club he ever wanted to manage...:greengrin

Walter Smith is on a rolling contract these days and so, is (Fish) Supper Ally :greengrin

I'd actually invest money to make that happen, if it were possible to buy a manager into a joab withoot buying the club, mooring yer sub in the Forth and bringing in lots of these for good measure:

He had a "get out" clause in his contract.

TM didn't and was just told to "get out". :greengrin

I had heard that Mowbray had requested to the Celtic Board no less than 3 times to be released from his contract. His request was rejected each time. The other thing that should be watched is the West Ham situation and the Peter Grant connection? Mowbray, Venus and Grant would be more than half the cost of the current Management team. Just a thought?

I can't get to grips with the role that Grant was playing. Seemed like Mowbray ticked all the boxes for the fickle sellcik support in that he was a former player, but maybe they needed a former supporter, turned player turned manager[ or assistant] to connect with the terraces? Not really sure, but I heard Murdo McLeod last night on Talksport, tell the host that a link with Celtic [or what we would call being sellick-minded], is not a requirement to get the job at Darkhied, just an ability to compete. I wonder if Gordon Strachan was listening in? He must be pyshin' himself just noo.

Looks like Mr Magoo has ruled himself out of the running. :faf:

Mark McGhee today insisted he no longer had any interest in going back to Celtic and claimed they would now struggle to attract a top manager.

Aberdeen boss McGhee was interviewed for the Parkhead job prior to Tony Mowbray's appointment nine months ago and was immediately linked with the role following the latter's departure yesterday.

But the former Celtic striker ruled out a return to the club and labelled the job an even harder sell because Scotland is set to lose its automatic Champions League spot due to the poor performances of its teams in Europe.

"It's a job that, even in the year or so that I was considered for the job, has changed," said McGhee.

"With the change in the qualification for the Champions League next year, Celtic - like most other jobs in Scotland - has become a domestic job, with the outside chance of Champions League football.

"When I was considering the job last year, the big attraction was the Champions League, and that's probably not going to be there now - the actual Champions League stage - for some time."

Responding to suggestions Gerard Houllier should be approached by Celtic, McGhee said: "I can't imagine in a million years that, with no Champions League football, and simply with a domestic programme in Scotland to look forward to, that Gerard Houllier would be the least bit interested in the Celtic job.

He added: "Anyone in the game knows the realities of what's happened since I've been in the football club and have taken that into account," said McGhee, citing the financial constraints he has operated under.

Like Mowbray, McGhee has failed to live up to expectations following his appointment.

But he added: "Tony Mowbray's gone in there, he's had a lot of money to spend, he's had a lot of opportunity to make the changes that he wanted to make.

"I've had no money to spend.

"In fact, since I've been here it's been cut back because of the loss of Lee Miller.

"Where we've arrived is similar in the sense that there's a bit of dissatisfaction and results have been poorer than people might have expected.

"But the way we've arrived here has been by totally different means."
