Things that go light in the night?

hi,

for the last few weeks my living room light has started turning itself on and off, i have a fancy remote controlled dimmer switch that i installed last year mmmmmmmmm shiny, Then one night i was watching tv and ping it came on. It happened a few times but the really weird time was when i was sleeping on the couch (my wife had a bug) and i dropped my cushion as it was pitch black i reached my hand out to find the cushion when bingo the light came on.....handy but slightly creepy, sometimes it dimms up or dimms down when nobody is anywhere near the remote, My first thoughts were a loose connection so took off the switch checked and the wires but they were fine,..............................anyone have any ideas?????

Have you tried a replacement remote control / receiver unit?

Rather than being paranormal, I think that a neighbour may have a remote that's on the same frequency and everytime they use it, it turns your light off and on.

Whats the wattage of the light/lights the dimmer is controlling?
It might not have a high enough rating.

Do the light/lights have transformers?
If so,they could be overheating and cutting off.

Or is it capable of being used with fluorescent or low energy bullbs, some dimmers are not suitable for anything but old fashioned light bulbs.

Could be of course that the dimmer in knackered.
