Anyone taking an interest in this? Major vote due this evening in Congress, should be pretty huge whatever happens. On a side note, the Tea Party Movement (See here (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tea_Party_movement)) have turned up and are at it already.

"Republican Devin Nunes (R-Calif.) came to the defense of the racists and bigots who shouted slurs at members of Congress. The Tea Party protesters shouted the ‘n’ word at African American members of Congress the ‘f’ word at an openly gay member." - Huffington Post.

If people are going to follow throughout the evening then The Huff Post (http://www.huffingtonpost.com/) is a good place to do so.

Health Care reform has narrowly been passed.

Obama has done very well to get it passed, although there could be severe repercussions in the mid term elections in November due to voter backlash.

As someone who doesn't pay that much attention to American domestic politics, what's the reason for the new Bill when they have Medicare and various derivatives for people who cannot afford private healthcare?

I trhink they're trying to expand this for more people to use, like a mini NHS system, which means more money being spent from the treasury, probably money they don't actually have.

A lot of he funding will come from taxing the wealthy which for some reason even poor Americans despise. My fiancee's American and according to some of her friends it's ok for 32 million people to have no health insurance as Obama is the anti-christ and he poor choose to be so and don't deserve health insurance. want poor people to live. America is full of right wing head cases it's quite scary

Medicare is only for over-65s (and doesn't cover everyone in that bracket by any means). Medicaid is the low-income version and only covers about 6 million people; there are various caveats which leave the vast, vast majority ineligible for it - leaving about 45 million people with no coverage whatsoever.
