One interesting item unearthed as the concrete was ripped back from the old terrace was a bottle of Sanderson's Brewed Ginger Beer from the Criterion Works, Edinburgh. It's amazing that the bottle was still intact having been buried deep down under the feet of thousands of supporters for years. We'd love to hear from any supporter who knows any history of Sanderson's? What era this bottle will have been from? Or even where the brewery was located? If you can add any background

Dead right. That was to be my half-time bevvy at an East of Scotland Shield game in 1955. It was a present from my grandad, and I want it back. Plus the twopence I'd have got back on the bottle. Plus the interest at 5% per annum compound on that twopence WHICH I was intending to put in my National Savings account for my old age which has now arrived.

I've actually contacted Jerry Kemp from that site and asked him if he can dig up more information on the company and the likely date of the bottle.
He has replied that he is actually in Edinburgh a couple of days a week, so I have put him in touch with Elaine Morrison for a viewing of the bottle - he will be able to date it and is prepared to do some research on the company.

The singing was brilliant that night but the manager took exception when we started to rattle out the earliest version of 'If you hate the ...... etc" In those days it was a bit less easy on the tongue as the words were "If you hate that little football team that plays in the dismal depths of Gorgie, clap your hands"
