I see Alex Chilton passed away today. Sad news, have always loved Big Star, saw them at Connect in 2007 and they were one of the best bands there.

I never travel far without a little Big Star... (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sTSJYZyouek)

Sad news, indeed.

Very sad. Not only were Big Star an awesome band with some of the best tunes written through the Seventies, they were hugely influential. His first band, the Box Tops were pretty good too and might surprise anyone who just knows them for their handful of hit singles.

The recent Big Star compilation "Keep an Eye on the Sky" is a real treasury of good music, and even the earliest tracks still sound terrific.

RIP Alex, and thanks for the tunes

Alex Chilton Fanclub ?
I'm sure that this was the original name used by Tennage Fanclub. I remember hearing a bootleg from a very early gig recorded in what is now the Citrus Club.

Crikey, that looks amazing. I'll have to get hold of it.

The quality of bands and artists with a debt to Big Star says a great deal.

They do a cover of Jesus Christ on that recent tribute album.

'Discovered' Alex Chilton after hearing Loudon Wainwright cover "Motel Blues", a good many years ago now.

He was just really good. Grateful for his music.

It's amazing all right. Pretty much the full canon, plus loads of demos and alternative takes, and a whole live album!! What really strikes you is the quality of the production, even on the 70's outtakes. Well, as well as the quality of the songs, the playing, the harmonies......

I would download this asap if I were you, but I assume you'll pay for it like I did :offski:
