Thanks to Bobby Sinnett I've been able to put together a summary of all 342 players who have played in Competitive Derbies since 1946.

Where players dates of birth are known I've been able to calculate their age in any game.

NB All columns are 'sortable' click on the heading to sort by that column. So you can easily find out who is the youngest, oldest, most appearances, goals etc.

A few observations

Gordon Smith has played in the most Derbies 37 over an incredible 19 seasons scoring 15 goals.

Pat Stanton played in all 28 games he could have played in.

Jimmy (James Francis) O'Rourke was the youngest player at 16y07m16d
John Burridge the oldest at 41y03m17d

John Jack Brownlie never lost in all 17 games he played.

Alan Roderick Rough never won in all 17 games he played.

I'm sure you'll be able to pick out some facts of your own.

Hibernian Players Record vs Heart of Midlothian from 1946 (http://www.londonhearts.com/scores/opp/hibernian.htm)

I'll be adding in more details on goal scorers and red cards etc.

John Brownlie never lost a game to Hearts?

Impressive.

He's got a permanent impression of Rab Prentice grooved into his left buttock as Prentice spent so much time in his back pocket.

Most astonishing statistic for me was how poor the famous five team's record against Hearts was:grr:

Of the current squad, Thicot, Stokes, Miller, Spoony, McCormack, Stack, Smith and McBride have never lost in a Derby. Lets hope we keep that statistic going this weekend.

Good thing he never played against Justin Fashanau.

I'll be adding in the goalscoring stats this evening. Including the appearance no that the goal scorer scored his first (and last) goal in. IIRC Gordon Hunter played 30 Derbies before scoring his first and only Derby goal in this game (http://www.londonhearts.com/scores/games/19940827.html).

A wee quiz question, IIRC there have been 5 hat-tricks scored by Hibs players in the list in competitive Derbies. NB one was scored during WWII on his debut.

Also I'll be adding in the same data for Hearts players in Derbies.

I have no exact idea until I work it out but I would guess that Hearts have maginally used more players than Hibs.

1945 to 1965 Both sides pretty stable similar numbers

1965 to 1983 Hibs on top Hearts make more changes to team

1983 to 1998 Hearts on top Hibs make more changes to team

1999 to 2005 Both sides pretty stable similar numbers

2005 to now Hearts use more players

thanks mate, you are the true king of stats.

Do you support both clubs or a 100% jambo that loves his stats so much you even have to go the whole hog with the Hibs stuff?

Whatever the reason I for one am glad youv'e done it.

edit - just seen the games played this week. deary me! Hope you didn't have to type them all in!

I've added in Scorers (http://www.londonhearts.com/scores/opp/hibernian.htm#a2) and hat tricks (http://www.londonhearts.com/scores/opp/hibernian.htm#a3).

A few quick observations

Excluding single game players Alex(ander James) Cropley had the best goals per game ratio .86

Gordon Hunter did play 30 games before his first goal and has the worst goals per game ratio.

Steven Fletcher played 16 before his first goal.

Gordon Smith was the youngest scorer 16y11m03d

Arthur H Milne the oldest 36y09m02d

The last Hibs hat trick was scored in JJ's last game in charge by 'MPP'

I'm less sure about the following as I haven't (yet) seen all the match reports between 1950 and 1996.

Only 8 players have scored penalties and Willie Ormand is the only player to score 2.

Good reading, and great to see my Uncle ( Pat Hughes ) listed

He played in 4 Derbies strangely all at Tynecastle

Tue 01 Jan 1957 Hearts 0 Hibernian 2
Sat 21 Sep 1957 Hearts 3 Hibernian 1
Sat 05 Sep 1959 Hearts 2 Hibernian 2
Sat 16 Sep 1961 Hearts 4 Hibernian 2

Hibs have had 98 different Derby scorers (excluding ogs) since the War. So a chance to make it 100 on Saturday.

LHWM

I've added in Goalkeepers. (http://www.londonhearts.com/scores/opp/hibernian.htm#a4) Hibs have had 3 who played in 17 Derbies.

Excluding single player games

John Mackie (Jackie) Wren conceded 3.25 goals per game 13 in 4

Followed by Ronnie Simpson with 3.00 goals 21 in 7

At the other end of the scale Jim Herriot conceded 0 in 4

Gordon Marshall only 1 in 4.

Though this may have more to do with the quality or lack of it in the Hearts forwards they played against.

LHWM

I've added in the Hearts players details and combined tables of both sets of players.

http://www.londonhearts.com/scores/opp/hibernian.htm#b2

Gordon Smith is both the youngest scorer (for Hibs) and the oldest Derby Scorer (for Hearts)

Hibs have 4 of the 5 youngest scorers the other being Alan Gordon (for Hearts).

Henry Smith 42 apps and Jim Cruickshank 28 apps are way out ahead in goalkeeping appearances.

Hearts have never had a goalkeeper who hasn't lost a goal. Hibs have had 3.

Yves Ma-Kalambay has a better losing goals per game ratio than Henry Smith.

John Jack Brownlie never lost in 17 games, Sandy Jardine never lost in 16.

Alan Roderick Rough never won in 17 and Roy Kay never won in 12.

I notice you include Gordon Smith's hat-trick in the Wartime Southern League D.

Arthur Milne scored a hat-trick in the Rosebery Cup Final 1940 and Willie Peat scored a hat-trick in the Wilson Cup Final in 1944.

Tommy Preston also scored a hat-trick in the Friendly to open Heart's Floodlights in 1957.

The last Hibs player to score a pre-war hat-trick against Hearts was John McIntyre in September 1938.

I took the decision to base it on players who played in any Derby POST 1946 BUT also include the games that they played in PRE 1946. Not to do so would have meant truncating Gordon Smith's incredible record (the youngest and oldest goal scorer).

I know that there will be some errors e.g. John Lister's disc has some spelling mistakes.

I don't have all the Hibs line ups for 'non competitive' games so I have excluded those, even though I rtemember being at big crowds for them in the late 1960s.

Any corrections most welcome.

I will be extending the list to all competitive games from the 1870s.

Again a very very big thanks to Bobby Sinnett.

The details of the individual players have now been added in. This includes their records versus Hearts for other clubs as well.

Hibs List (http://www.londonhearts.com/scores/opp/hibernian1946.htm)

Click on a players name to see his full record.

A few examples

John Hughes (http://www.londonhearts.com/scores/opp/John[8]Hughes.htm) I didn't realise He was so old when He first played (27) against Hearts.

Pat Stanton (http://www.londonhearts.com/scores/opp/PatrickGordonStanton.htm)

John Brownlie (http://www.londonhearts.com/scores/opp/JohnJackBrownlie.htm) who never lost in 17 games.

Alan Rough (http://www.londonhearts.com/scores/opp/AlanRoderickRough.htm) who never won in 17 for Hibs but in the previous 14 games for Partick Thistle had 9 wins, 4 draws and a single loss.

Seriously? Are you really gonna do that?
Surely a painfully onerous task without any real reward?

Thanks to Bobby I have all the data. It is now a relatively straight forward tasks of matching Bobby's name of players to John Lister's pre war list of players.

Ultimately I'd like to have a complete list for Hearts and Hibs players and scorers in all Derbies. Some are lost forever as contempary reports are missing the details.
