Bit long for a documentary, but worth watching IMO.

A very good documentary. I thought it was really interesting to see how people were taking deserted land and using it to grow crops. It would be amazing to think that in 100 years a great industrial community could evolve back into agricultural land.

Thanks very much for the link. Superb documentary. Very much an insight into the potential fate of most developed Western countries if they do not radically change and adapt :agree:

That's what I meant by a bit long. They could easily have cut out 15 minutes of the "Detroit's a deserted wasteland" thing, which would have given more weight to the hopeful(ish) ending.
NYT article from May 2008 (http://www.nytimes.com/2008/05/07/dining/07urban.html?_r=1&ex=1210824000&en=9d6a23b0418d45a4&ei=5070&emc=eta1)

Maybe the balance of the show was based on the reality. The situation is grim, but there is the odd pocket of hope.
The other thing that sticks in my mind is the deserted freeways. I wondered if it was a case of selective filming, but I noticed in the Motown documentary that Martin (?) Freeman did that the streets do appear to be empty.
Not getting at the weegies, but I could see a lot of parallels with the state of Glasgow in Detroit.
edit: funnily enough there was something on Reporting Scotland tonight about groups of people reclaiming waste land in Glasgow and making it into gardens.
