A few of us are looking for an early start on Derby Day; are there any pubs in Leith/Edinburgh that still open at say 6am?

Done the Penny Black in the past; but it's no the cleanest establishment lets say.

You are going to the pub at 6am. Who cares if it is clean!

There is a pub near Potterrow which says its open till 5am, you could go there around 3/4 and get drink for a couple hours before moving on. :greengrin

Both R/Burn and M/Field hotel open - as far as I'm aware - at the slightly more "normal" hour of 9am :agree:

Jakeys. Used to pass it on the way to work about 8.30am and it was certainly open then. Auld guys standing outside with their pints and having a smoke.

Stratfords opens at 6am.

Jake-tastic dive of a place. I get the bus past there every morning, and there's something mildly disconcerting about seeing auld men having a pint at 7.45 am on a Tuesday!! :greengrin

:agree: I used to catch a bus from there at 7.45am and the jakies were already in full swing.

Spider's Web in Morrison Street was another pub I passed early in the morning and was also open.

Loadsa choice for the jakies.

Doubt it would be a problem at 9.00 opening on Saturday morning, unlikely to be anyone on the doors..

they don't allow them after a derby, but they won't have bouncers on in the morning.

i reckon you'll be fine, but wear a zipped up jacket/scarf in your pooch just to be safe:cool2:

Last derby at the PBS I was out & ready to roll at 7am, started at the fit o the walk as I reckoned the Marksman was a certainty, but wasnae open, walked up the walk as far as the Brunswick, only places I saw open were Greggs & FR's establishment Priscillas, so Greggs it was for somethin to soak up the beer, walked right back down to the Marksman & still naewhere open, got on a bus up the walk & as it passed I saw the Brunswick open at 07:45, wasted 45 mins of good drinking time, what youd be better doing is checking up the day before in whichever pub you fancy & get them to tell when theyre openin, then you wont end up at the early kick off a couple of pints lighter like I did last time.
