Thanks to a new Ryanair route, me and a few mates are trying the 2 places - getting the ferry from Finland to Estonia - in a little over a month, and in true lazy bassa .net fashion, I thought I'd try to glean some good travel info/advice from the great and the good on here.

So, has anyone one here been to the aforementioned cities?? What did you think re: architecture, general ambiance and prices - more specifically booze prices. Is Helsinki as absolutley horrific as I've heard Sweden/Norway are from this point of view?

Any special things/sites of cultural interest/pubs etc that you'd rate as unmissable in either one?

Any/all advice much appreciated :agree:

Which Ryanair route? We're going to helsinki shortly and i thought it was just BA from Manc/heathrow?:confused:

Edinburgh - Tampere? (2 hours from Helsinki judging by google maps)

Dunno how you get back from the Baltics though. The nearest reasonable one I can see is in Riga, you can get to Prestwick from there. Or fly to Stansted from Tallinn. It's either that or Kaunas.

Both cities are great fun. The ferry is the original 'booze cruise' - there is a lot of drinking goes on. Check out the weird Depeche Mode theme bar in Tallin, simply called the Depeche Mode. It was full of the prettiest (and happiest) goth girls i've ever seen.

Yup, Edinburgh to Tampere (though sack hanging about in Tampere for too long), then Riga to Prestwick are the routes we're taking - Tuesday to Sunday - lovely jubbly.

You could spend a wee while there surely? You might bump into Jarkko and you can tell him how highly he's thought of back in Edinburgh. :wink:
