Read on....
A couple of years ago I put in an insurance claim (that I had no doubt would be successful) to my big high street bank/insurance company. After a few weeks of delaying tactics they turned down my claim for totally spurious reasons. As the months went on, I produced more and more evidence to back up my case for them to pay out, only for them to continue to refuse to pay up. I spent literally hours on the phone, writing letters and such like. After about a year of total stalemate I got these people involved http://www.financial-ombudsman.org.uk/ (http://www.financial-ombudsman.org.uk/) who are a sort of independent ombudsman that settle these kind of disputes. They're based on London, and each officer has a heavy workload so it took about 6 months for my case to even be dealt with. However, once I reached the front of the queue the organisation was fantastic, kept me in touch with their correspondence, phoned me with updates etc.
This week I got a letter from the insurance company involved saying they would be paying my claim in full, plus the interest that was accrued. After I'd finished dancing round the room in delight:greengrin, my first thought was that there must be a fair few people in my position that have probably never heard of this service.
It goes without saying I heartily recommend them. If you're in the same position as I was, get in touch with them.
(BTW I don't work for them or anything:greengrin Just thought somebody out there might benefit).
