Personally speaking this has been my suspicion since I was old enough to understand the concepts. Anyone else feel vindicated?
Also, any right-wing christians feel mis-represented?

You're like the Daily Mail of hibs.net posters.
I couldn't find the words 'right-wing', 'Christians' or 'idiots' anywhere in that piece.

How am I like the Daily Mail? That doesn't make any sense.
Also, if you're going to be ridiculously picky to not really make any kind of point, I'll concede that 'christians' should be replaced with 'religious' and 'right-wing' should be replaced with 'conservative'.
Idiots is my personal view. Don't hate.

To be fair, I'm sure if I a) could be ar*ed and b) had the disposition to do so, I could probably find some piece of obscure research claiming that all liberal aetheists and immigrants were all gay and liable to murder a child.
I don't need a report to confirm my long-held convictions that extreme right-wing religious nutters are just exactly that - nutters.

So left wing atheists have decided that people who disagree with them are stupid. As they say in France 'Quelle surprise'.

What aspects of mental activity does the IQ test cover? E.g., does it include wisdom?

What never surprises me is the lengths our anti religious brethren  will go to trawl for articles to support their own dogma and to put down religion :greengrin. FFS the Toronto Star. Unless of course TC you live in Canada and if so you have my apologies.
Like Beefster I couldnt find the words right wing or christian in the article but lets not let the actual wording of the article get in the way of putting together a wee sensationalist title. I dont know about the Toronto Star but with those skills im sure you could get a job writing headlines for the Daily Star .
And before you acuse me of nitpicking also , religious covers all religions not just christianity while right wing with its fascist connotations is a far more pejorative term than conservative , the word which was actually used. But im sure you knew both these things

Religion is based on belief/faith, faith doesn't follow any logic. Logic and facts from which we can draw conclusions from is really what we use to determine and measure intellect. Therefore having faith in something like a religion sometimes means that you have to put aside things like facts, logic and even intelligence; that in turn doesn't mean all religious people are thick though does it.
How can a survey, experiment....report (whatever) establish a 'type' of person's intelligence if what they believe in totally contradicts most logic and known facts, since this is what we in turn use to determine intellect?
The answer being, we can't.
The article infact doesn't even state anything remotely close to what your stating Tinyclothes : "Right-wing christians are idiots. It's official."
So to summarise, I think yer talking out your anus I'm afriad, Tinyclothes.
FWIW, I'm in no way a "right-wing Christian" as you'll probably already have gathered from my previous posts but that doesn't mean that I'll suffer reading tripe like you've come out with silently. :P

The methodology of this article must be questioned straight off.
Those who class themselves "very religious", are they? Or are they putting it down to check a box so that they feel good about themselves or to keep the US as a Christian country in this age of global security being under threat from other religions.
Also where did they sample group come from? They could have chosen those who are "very religious" from a group for difficult learners or something? There is no justification for any of this to be valid.
Are the US representative of the world?
The relationship between religious beliefs and IQ cannot be measured as the guy above me said. A Christian and an atheist could argue till they are both blue in the face but at the end of the day it comes down to faith. Faith is taking a leap into the dark, into the unknown and your personal outcome has an impact on your religious views.
The way someone justifies their religious beliefs could have a like with someone's IQ. Their reasoning might be weak eg. i believe just because i do. Or others could have a strong case for proof with experience or scriptural references.
Liberalisation is also a wide concept and isn't defined by the reporter.
The whole report seems to be invalid.

The report is obviously based on a sample size, but a large enough sample to be able to draw conclusions from the results.
People with right wing, christian views have in general a lower IQ than left wing atheists, according to that study.
You can't argue with that result if they have randomly sampled a group of people.

Does the US represent the world?

What makes you think you understand the concepts NOW?
GlesgaeHibby claims that "you can't argue with that result if they've randomly sampled a group of people".
But there's nothing there to tell us how many people were in the sample.
Nor how they were selected.
Nor what tests were applied to achieve the desired result...
Nor do YOU adequately define your terms - what do you mean by "right-wing"?
Are you SURE that "conservative" means the same thing?
How do you define a "Christian"?
And are you REALLY generalising to the extent that "Christian" and "religious" are interchangeable in your "mind"?
And what exactly do you mean by "idiot"?
