Listening to the radio commentary of the Carling Cup Final today, I was wondering who the commentator with the Scottish/English accent was. Turned out to be Ray Houghton. I knew he played all of his football in England and that he represented the Republic of Ireland but I'd forgotten he was Scottish by birth and by the strength of his accent must have been brought up as a kid in Scotland. Presumably he qualified by virtue of his Dad's or Grandad's Irish nationality but can anyone remember if there was any 'controversy' at the time about his choice (a la McGeady)?

Born and bred in Glasgow, Castlemilk I think.

His old boy was Irish, Ray went off at a young age to play in England.(16 or 17)
