How cringing is this, it's obviously been stage managed by publicists and is not from the heart.
Then again why does he have to apologise publically, surely the only person he should be saying sorry to is his missus.
Can't imagine if I had affairs that I would have to stand up in front of my work colleagues etc and apologise, this just seems odd.

Of course it was stage managed. It would have been a feeding frenzy otherwise.
The man is a global superstar and this story has been headline news all over the world. The chances of him being able just to privately say sorry to his wife and escape a public humiliation are exactly zero. Think that one through.
He is also a role model for millions of children around the world. He had to apologise to them and to their parents for trusting in him. He had to speak to the world.
If your colleagues think of you in those terms, maybe you should apologise to them. If you're ever caught having multi affairs, likesay! :greengrin
I listened to him in the car and I can't think how any apology could be more fullsome or sincere, to be honest.
He said that the blame lies only with him. He is "so sorry" for his behaviour.
He admitted that he had convinced himself that the usual rules didn't apply to him because of his wealth and fame. That's a powerful admission.
He said that he is seeking help and it will take time and effort for him to be rehabilitated.
What more could he have said for you to have believed him?

Looked a broken man to me.
His wife not being there tells its own story.
Think his therapy has a long way to go - be surprised if he makes the Masters TBH.

The public apology was to try and salvage his chances of sponsorships etc. No more, no less. If any of it was directed at his 'fans' then it's purely because with no fans there are no sponsorships.
He hasn't done himself any (more) favours by doing it at the same time as an Accenture tournament though, considering they were the first sponsor to drop him.
I would have been more impressed if the guy had stood there without his wee script and held his hands up and said " Look I f***ed up, I was a complete erse and made a t1t of myself and my family, I've got problems which have to be sorted, don't know when I'll be back but hopefully soon. "

Why did he have to apologise? Surely his private life and what he does in it, should be between him and his wife.

He's sorry he was caught I think, nothing else.
But, as others have said, not sure why it was necessary for a public apology, I couldn't care less!

Or I'm loaded, got birds dropping at my feet and you lot are just jealous, so giruy.
Why does he need sponsors anymore anyway? Surely he has enough money. Just go out and win some golf tournaments,

Sorry if this sounds cynical, but I think Tiger has said what he thinks he needs to say, so he can get back to golf. I thought it was a skilful, but far from flawless performance, and tbh I think he was putting it on.
Regardless, I think he has used up his only "get out of jail" card with the public, and if he does anything like this again, he will not get much sympathy.
