Well Lardass Joe knows all about chickening out of big games - he did it time after time in a Hibs shirt.

For younger posters, THIS is what he looks like (viewers of a nervous disposition should look away now) -

I've got Hibs 1-0 Liverpool (1975) on DVD with Harper scoring the winner. He looked chubby even then.

Does that DVD have a few different games on it - including the 72 Cup Final? I got a copy of it from someone on here (who may well have been you now I think about it?!)

Gave my brother-in-law a loan of it about 3 years ago and eventuially got it back a couple of weeks ago.

EUGHHHH!!!!

:jamboak::jamboak::jamboak:

A man of God should not be inflicting this unmitigated horror on the young and impressionable members of Hibs.net. And a picture too!

Still a bloated slavering fud who knows more about playing like a fairy than Tinkerbell. Still he gave his best for the Sheep, especially when he was supposed to be playing against them for Hibs.

Shame on the BBC for giving space to the foulness that emerges from his fundament on far too frequent occasions.

Harper scored a few important goals for Hibs, I still don't get this willingness of Hibs fans to dump on him after so many years? As to the younger Hibs fans (as you mentioned) they might like to wonder why Hibs fans booed someone off the park after having scored 5 goals for us in a game! Were our standards really so high ....?:cool2:

Aye, a brass neck. He needed it when he went to pick up his wages for doing the square root of SFA for us.

When the going got tough, Lardass always disappeared from sight.

On paper his stats look reasonable - on the pitch, watching the whole horrid scenario taking shape, he wasn't anywhere like as impressive. I've seen this "booed off after scoring five goals in a game" story dragged up time and again. The game I think you're thinking of is the one Jonnyboy listed a few days ago - it was a friendly against NEC Nijmegen and IIRC the reason for the booing was to do with his behaviour off the field and his attitude on the field outweighing his goals in an entirely meaningless fixture.

As I have said already on Jonnyboy's original thread - Joe Harper was a purulent pus-laden pestilence on the fair face of Hibernian Football Club, a herpetic hyperglobular haemorrhoid, a bloated bladder of criminal crapulence never exceeded from that day to this.

This would be no more than the outpouring of my own pathetic hang-ups about an otherwise upstanding and deserving citizen, were it not that the following two posts on that thread AGREE with me.

(Actually, the second poster reckons I've let him off too lightly. After consoderation, I agree with him - Joe Harper was, and remains, much much worse than that.)

The signing of Harper, and the subsequent binning of Alan Gordon and Jim O'Rourke - two players whose boots Harper wasn't fit to clean - has always IMO called into question Eddie Turnbul's reputation as a great Hibernian manager - Harper's signing was one of the most spectacularly horrible misjudgements I have ever witnessed by any manager at ER.

Some nice alliteration in there Doddie - I still don't get this vitriol against Harper though - sorry. Does it really matter that he scored 5 in a friendly only? Anyway, he was hardly to blame for Gordon and O'Rourke et al - I also remember him saying that he expected to be playing with the great "Tornodoes" only himself to find out when he arrived that the team was being dismantled hardly his fault? I was mighty upset (at the time) when the team was broken up, but that's the way of the world, surely? Pointless discussing it I suppose.

Calling Eddie Turnbull's managerial reign into question - well, it gets better all the time! We're all entitled to our opinion I suppose. I'm not saying I'm right and your wrong, I just don't get your stance. I probably don't know enough about Harper (off the field) to appreciate your POV. Maybe I should go back to "Johhny's" original thread?? Anyway, here's hoping we pick up 3 pts this evening!

The fat chump deliberately missed an open goal for us at home to the sheep - hanging's too good for him.

The team when he was brought in were all up each others A - - - S and a change was needed, and it was mostly due to there lack of effort because they didn't like anybody new that things went downhill
and if you are not old enough to remember you should back off and not listen to untrue stories. :grr:

The guy who was calling the shots was Tom Hart. Nobody did anything at ER in those days without clearing it with Hart. That includes Turnbull.

And if the point was to bring in players to increase the size of the squad, why blow £140,000 on one player when that money in those days would have brought in at least three players of more than decent ability?

Turnbull himself said he considered the Harper deal the one that would 'win Hibs the Championship' - but he hadn't made sure that Harper was fit to play - he wasn't - nor did he consider that Harper had been trouble off-field wherever he went. Same bother that John White used to cause - paternity disputes.

It's a very strange way to 'sort out ' a team by transferring all but one of them - including eventually Harper - out of the club within a period of 3-4 years. There are ways of 'shaking up' a team without destroying it.

Looks as if the present bunch need a good shaking up right now.... :grr:

Doddie

Were it not for the facts that you are older, live in a different place and a man of the cloth, I'd swear we are the same person.

PS: I agree.
