Will we get some form of order when it comes to taking penalties and free kicks please! :grr:

It's like a kids game when you see Riordan, Stokes, Rankin, Zemmama and Benji all having a scuffle to see who takes what. It's a joke. There was one last night that it took around a minute for Zouma to finally leave Stokes in peace to hit the free kick....

Outcome? Into the wall. If you have a minute to think about hitting a free kick then surely it'd be more productive for a player, Stokes in this instance, to concentrate on the task in hand rather than having 'his mate' trying to take the ball off him. It's not guaranteed to lead to a goal but I'd be happier if he had more time to concentrate.

SORT IT OUT HUGHES.

PS. Riordan on free kicks, Benji on pens. Failing that, Stokes on either of them. :greengrin

You just knew it was going straight in to the wall or well over the bar after all that, no?

Zouma should of taken that freekick last night IMO..

From so close in it's a different kind of technique needed to get the ball up and down!

Deek and Stokes have the knack from long range but Zouma has it for the shorter range ones!

I do agree about the schoolboy huffing though!

Agreed mate. It's quite an important thing to have a dedicated set piece taker, depending on what side of the goal it is. It shows a lack of professionalism to be squabbling over each one.

Nah, it's all fine by me, you want whoever is feeling up for it at the time to take it. The competition and the rivalry for them is also good, they need to prove a point to the guy they've just argued about it with.

Our record of scoring from free kicks in particular is outstanding so let them argue on.

Agreed..........not sure tho that zouma left him in peace. Looked more to me that he said to himself "**** it, not worth fighting about"....probably knowing that he could do better from that position.

FWIW I think he was probably right.............

After fighting off yer team mates to take the penalty or free kick how much pressure have you just put on yourself? Really when there is no need.

Yogi has already stated that he prefers to leave up to the players and thinks the one with the most appetite and confidence will take the kick. So I think we can look forward to more of these scuffles.

I do think Yogi should look at this again and maybe work who is best from what which position.

It wouldn't be hard to do in training to set -up a competition for best penalty taker best frre kick specialist from distance or close and on the left and right, thereby sorting out if i.e. a free kick is far out on the left it's deeks area etc.

As long as they arent physically attacking each other they should be allowed to have a wee fight about it. The problem comes when Darren McCormack wants to take it:greengrin

We should be ok if we ever go to penalties anytime soon, I'd imagine we'd have any 5 of these on the park after the 120 minutes:

Riordan
Stokes
Nish
Gow
Benji
Zemamma
Miller

No much scraping about with a centre-half coming up to take one.

Deek taking free-kicks = Good

Deek taking corners = P*sh

Maybe Zouma should fight a bit harder to take the ball off him for corners.

Last night we had one free kick and a penalty, that caused arguments with Riordan, Benji,Stokes and Zemamma over who was going to take them. Surely we should have someone who is the dedicated penalty taker, or the dedicated free kick specialist for certain positions on the park. Imho it was amateurish watching the players squabbling over them.

Ah, did not see this before i posted.

Surely having so many options and such competitiveness is a good thing ? Stokes, Riordan and Zemmama have all scored from free kicks this year therefore all could argue the case to take it. At least no one is shying away. For penalty taking, Benji is the man, who if on the pitch, has the 100% record, so he takes them. I'd be more worried if they were treating the ball like a hot spud if a free kick or pen was awarded.

Our corners can be horrific, we dont seem to have anyone who can consistantly deliver a good, solid corner into the box for Nish and Bamba to attack.

As for penalties, it should be determined by Yogi, and thats how it is; either the person who wins the penalty or someone takes them until they miss, then it moves onto someone else.

As for free kicks, its good to have variation, but we cant have players arguing over who gets to take it. Not sure how you sort that out.

I don't agree. I think we took 3 short corners and 2 of them led to chances. Zouma and Riordan failed with at least 4 corners to get past the first man when trying a direct ball.

Mixing up the corners keeps the opposition guessing and against more physical and taller teams like Aberdeen we have to try and play tour our strenghts not theirs.

The free kick fights were something we discussed at the match last night when they were all arguing who was going to take it.

Surely it makes more sense to wait and see how the wall lines up before they decide - that way it makes it simpler based on where's going to be easier to put it to get round the wall?

And BTW, get the short corners away tae **** - we're pants at them

Benji having to fight off Stokes to take the penalty didn't adversely affect the outcome.

Again, if Yogi thinks this is a problem, he'll fix it. Having so many players capable and eager to take penalties and free kicks is a blessing as far as I'm concerned. Better that than relying heavily on one player to do it all.

Corners do need sorted out though. Time for Riordan to give them up for a while.

I also think we should do the same as Aberdeen a few years ago.At corners have all our players hanging on to each other,at the D on the edge of the box.
Then when the corner is taken, they all run into the box like headless chickens :faf:

What do we have a captain on the field for but to make decisions during play and lead the team. In case of a dispute over pen, freekick etc he should decide and if say corners are not working captain should change taker.:greengrin
