Are any of you out there a Synesthete?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Synesthesia

I'd heard of this 'condition' before but never researched it. However, last night my new girlfriend mentioned that she feels/sees each day of the week as a definite, unchanging colour i.e. Sunday is red, Monday is dark brown, Tuesday is bright blue etc.

She struggled to articulate exactly how it affects her but she considers it a positive.

Apparently there are many forms of synesthesia and people relate definate colours to different numbers, letters or even sounds.

What I found most interesting was that she thought everyone saw the days of the week in colour just as she did, and didn't discover otherwise until she started school, after which she didn't tell anyone for fear of being labelled different.

So, anyone want to own up to having this 'gift' and share their experiences?

I relate maroon to the different numbers 40 million and 400,000. This lifts my spirits on blue days.

I read a book called 'Musicophilia' (Oliver Sacks) a few years ago, where the links between music and the brain are explored. There is a section on this, where he talks about people who relate specific visual images - including colour - to individual notes. And other stuff I can't remember.

Heh heh, I knew there would be a maroon reference.

To my girlfriend Thursday is always green, but there are no maroon days in her week, (or mine for that matter).

Naw but I’ve often felt I suffer from ergasiophobia.

Did you know that there is a condition known as ‘familial Hibernian fever’?

Googling ergasiophobia and familial Hibernian fever = the most work I've done today.

(I actually thought the Hibees Family Fever was a wind up, who'd of thunk it was for real?)
