View Full Version : DNIPRO APPEAL (Bid For Rod's Framed 50p, Signed Hibs Ball and Poster)

At the recent St Mirren match, the tache was doing his walkabout in BTG. He stopped at our table for a chat and after a little banter he gave us 50P.

We now have the said coin framed and the mounting has been signed by Rod to confirm the authenticity of said coin.

Given Rod's famed "deep Pockets/short arms" reputation, the guys decided that this framed piece of memorabilia should now be auctioned in favour of Dnipro Kids.

Please PM bids to me if this is of interest to you.

I already have one bid of £25.00.
Closing date for bids Sunday 28.02.10. Once closed I will pass the proceeds to a member of the Dnipro Kids team.
Come on, do some good and be the person that keeps the 50P from Rod!!!!

Any chance of a pic of said framed coin and signature? Maybe drum up some more interest?

I heard that Rod doesn't carry cash, to save unnecessary expenditure.

:agree:

He must have found the 50p on the floor and gave it back to you.

What the OP failed to mention was Rodders sold them the 50p for a fiver...

As he handed the 50p over Rodders dropped it and it clattered him on the back of the head as he went to pick it up..

We all make mistakes. Some people learn from them. Full marks to Hibs for turning things around.

I am Hibby Dave's brother. Basically the story is that Rod was doing his usual round of the tables in BTG before the St Mirren game. Usually he just stands and listens to all the moaners about the beer prices, individual players, etc ...
but this time he sat down to talk with one of our guys. A couple of minutes in and another one of our lot piped up along the lines of ... you might be the boss but at this table you buy a round ... cue much mirth and a 10p being produced ... which brought the second response of ... at these prices!
cue more mirth and the shiny 50p ... the rest as they say is, or will be, history:agree:

hope that helps

The latest bis is £60.00 for the Rod Petrie Coin.

To try and boost things I am willing to donate a signed Hibernian Football. to the succesfull bidder when the bidding closes on 28.02.10.

The players are not current players as I've had the ball for a few years but still maybe of interest to fellow hibbees.

Nice One Dave.

Tell you what, hibs.net will add in a wee piece of Hibee memorabilia that we have here. It's a BWFC promotional poster for Jussi Jaaskelainen's testimonial last August. This is a genuine rarity and a must for Hibs memorabilia collectors.

I can get it to you at the St Johnstone game if you'll be in BTG beforehand.

I'll post a picture up when I get a chance later. Should be today.

Sorry, but I had to laugh at the comment left by a Jambo....

"i'm off to did....every 50p of Rods in a jambos hand is 50p less he can invest in the squad" :faf:

I see the 50p story has made the daily record! http://www.dailyrecord.co.uk/football/spl/hibernian/2010/02/22/hibs-fans-aim-to-raise-cash-for-good-cause-thanks-to-stingy-club-chairman-86908-22061274/ (http://www.dailyrecord.co.uk/football/spl/hibernian/2010/02/22/hibs-fans-aim-to-raise-cash-for-good-cause-thanks-to-stingy-club-chairman-86908-22061274/)

Have to say I am a bit annoyed at the Daily Records attempt to get in on this. The headline is shocking. At no point has anyone accused Rod of being stingy. If anything this began as a backhanded compliment to his financial prudence which is clearly being demonstrated now, the East Stand redevelopment being only one example, as having been fantastic for the Club.

The EEN carried it off better on Saturday and at least took time to speak with both my brother and Mr Petrie, but that might be too much like journalism for the Record.

I suppose the only good thing is that this is a bit more advertising for a good cause.
