Sports science stuff (?) that Yogi loves.

Barnett analysed the birthdays of professional Australian Football League (AFL) players and found a disproportionate number had their birthdays in the early months of the year, while a fewer number were born in the later months, especially December.

I thought what a load of yellowish stuff! And then I looked at our squad.

Nearly half (11/26) were born January or February, two thirds (18/26) are born in the first 6 months of the year, only one in November and none in December.

The Australian school year begins in January and ours is August BUT with all things in age groups I think, having looked at our squad, the same rules apply.

So potential Dads if you want your sons to play for Hibs you need to be doing something about it around about April.

well I was born in January and despite my Sunday morning attempts to prove otherwise, it would be fair to say I'm crap! So I think that obviously disproves this theory! :greengrin

Football at youth level is by Calendar not Academic year.

The OP is right - and it's logical really - the older kids tend to be, almost always, more physically, but more importantly, mentally developed when they begin to learn the game and at a young age, 6+ months age difference often makes a big difference.

Anyone with Primary school children will probably notice this.

My elder son is born in December:boo hoo:, my younger son in February.:greengrin

The same or a similar analysis also showed that clubs who spend the most money win the most trophies and manager or coach has very limited impact. Broadly speaking league positions are relative to cash available.

However, it also showed that a mid-season change in manager/coach has a highly positive impact in most cases that lasts on average around 6 matches/weeks, before returning to normality.

Unless you are Hearts/JJ. :greengrin

So long as you advise them against goalkeeping.
