Surely if any of the famous five were to feature it should be Gordon Smith?

Lawrie Reilly was included because of his immense international record as well as his Hibs reccord. 22 goals in 31 games for Scotland is quite a feat.

No Joe Baker? :cool2:

Then whoever compiled the list knows the square root of the blunt end of a pig's backside about football.

I don't think it was Willie Henderson. He was 20 years younger than Gordon Smith.

Henderon played for Scotland from 1962 to 1971.

I haven't read it but I would assume JB would be in it. Remember he's English so obviously wouldn't appear in the list of other Scots in the OP.

Edit: It appears he's not in it, I'm very surprised at that.

That can't be right. No Robbie Keane? I thought he was the greatest striker in the whole wide world ever according to the coverage of him this week.

Smith was a winger, on the same basis you would include C Ronaldo on that list.

Usually these "top" whatever lists are crap, but that one isn't too ridiculous. Baker's a good shout, but to be honest he didn't do enough in the English leagues after returning from Italy. A couple of better seasons in the mid 1960s at Arsenal + selection for the 1966 WC (which he was on the fringes of) would get him on this sort of list. The three main strikers from that England squad (Roger Hunt, Hurst and Greaves) are in there.

As much as Cantona was revered, surprised to see him that high up.

Going back a bit there, a testimonial v Aston Villa, we beat them 4-2 I think. Was it a testimonial for Sneddon or am I way off the track with that?

Not too bad a list but that's the one major discrepancy that stands out to me.

Yes, fairly sure it was Sneddon.

My dad said he was the best player he seen in the flesh and he watched the tottenham double winning team around then.Funnily enough most older hibs fans plump for smith as the better player but the list is of goalscorers. Also smith wasnt really recognised outside scotland which seems silly given his remarkable achievements.

I agree that its difficult to define a 'striker' - particularly given that positions and formations have changed so much down the years.

22 international goals in 38 games is a remarkable achievement and Reilly should be there. Smith IMO should be there too though. Winning the top Scottish league for 3 different, non-OF clubs. Greatest individual achievement in Scottish Football history IMO without a shadow of a doubt.

You could probably get 50 strikers called Gordon Smith into that list. The legend, Smith must score Smith, the lad that plays for Hearts, the lad that plays for Hearts's dad, any others!?

Think you'll find that Bakers record in England was more than reasonable.

I was meaning more in terms of winning trophies, or at least finishing higher up the league. Baker scored plenty of goals, but Arsenal didn't finish higher than 7th in the four seasons he was there.
