A few snippets from a review of last year that I have been reading:

January
Librarians in Edinburgh are no longer to be referred to as such. Their new title will be 'audience development officers'.

February
A Manchester court fines a man who dropped a cigarette end £175 with £155 costs. Another accused who assaulted a woman is fined £55 and told to pay £50 compensation.

March
Scottish police officers issued with diversity handbooks instructing them not to refer to gays as homosexuals and not to use terms such as manpower, and unmanned and even policeman as they are sexist.

April
A wheelchair-bound man sues MI5 after being turned down for a job as a secret agent.

May
An ASDA customer in Halifax has to prove she is over 18 before being permitted to buy a set of spoons. Staff inform her it is possible to murder someone with a spoon.

June
A £1million Home Office scheme to coax asylum seekers to go home - including the offer of £4000 in cash - meets with limited success. Only one family responds.

July
All adults are banned from a school sports day in Bedfordshire in case a paedophile turns up.

August
A women's refuge in Dorset is closed down because it is not open to men.

September
A 71 year old widow who prodded a teenage hoodie in the chest after stones were thrown at her Blackpool home is convicted of assault.

October
A 15 year old is chased down the street and has the wine gums he'd just bought confiscated because the shop assistant is worried about having sold alcohol to an under 18.

November
A survey of Scottish schoolchildren aged 9 to 15 reveals many think Adolf Hitler is manager of the German football team, Auschwitz is a historical theme park and the SS were Enid Blyton's Secret Seven.

December
Drug addicts are to be fast-tracked to receive NHS treatment within 21 days. The target for cancer patients is 31 days.

Dunno whether to :greengrin or :boo hoo:at some of these.

Is this true? My neighbour is a librarian, and is stilla librarian to the best of my knowledge.

February
A Manchester court fines a man who dropped a cigarette end £175 with £155 costs. Another accused who assaulted a woman is fined £55 and told to pay £50 compensation.

Pointless out of contect comparison.

March
Scottish police officers issued with diversity handbooks instructing them not to refer to gays as homosexuals and not to use terms such as manpower, and unmanned and even policeman as they are sexist.

April
A wheelchair-bound man sues MI5 after being turned down for a job as a secret agent.

Did he succeed? No? Nowt to do with PC then, eh?

May
An ASDA customer in Halifax has to prove she is over 18 before being permitted to buy a set of spoons. Staff inform her it is possible to murder someone with a spoon.

suspect this is nonsense - nothing to do with PC - stupidity

June
A £1million Home Office scheme to coax asylum seekers to go home - including the offer of £4000 in cash - meets with limited success. Only one family responds.

Whats this to do with PC

July
All adults are banned from a school sports day in Bedfordshire in case a paedophile turns up.

Dont believe this to be true
Edit - turns out it is true, and again is utter stupidity. The fact it is one school rather than all schools does tend to suggest that the vast majority of schools accept it as arrant nonsense.

August
A women's refuge in Dorset is closed down because it is not open to men.

Dont believe this to be true

Stupidity, if true, nothing to do with PC

November
A survey of Scottish schoolchildren aged 9 to 15 reveals many think Adolf Hitler is manager of the German football team, Auschwitz is a historical theme park and the SS were Enid Blyton's Secret Seven.

How is this anything to do with "PC"?

December
Drug addicts are to be fast-tracked to receive NHS treatment within 21 days. The target for cancer patients is 31 days.

Dunno whether to :greengrin or :boo hoo:at some of these.

I suspect most of this is bollox. Ive put a few comments on. Its really just an excuse for you to be outraged about something isnt it?

It may not really be a PC issue - more an indication that there's more pish in children's heads than there should be. Last month (January) a seven year old relative told me he wanted to be a scientist when he grows up. I asked him what he might want to achieve as a scientist, thinking he might say that he hoped to find a cure for cancer or travel to Jupiter. He told me that he wanted to meet his targets.

So that's three out of twelve that, if true (and I'll be having a check), have anything whatsoever to do with political correctness.

I don't know whether to laugh or cry at an entire section of society being unable to differentiate between health and safety legislation and political correctness. Deary ****ing me...

You really can't help yourself can you? I was going to add a sentence at the bottom to say that they weren't all 'PC Brigade' orientated but decided not to as I thought everyone would just take it as a laugh.

I should have known better.

So a list entitled 'How the P.C. brigade went mad in 2009' wasn't actually much to do with political correctness and you knew it? How peculiar.

A £1million Home Office scheme to coax asylum seekers to go home - including the offer of £4000 in cash - meets with limited success. Only one family responds.

Three points:-

Asylum seekers get millions in benefits don't they? Also, isn't the point of seeking asylum to avoid being murdered in your own country? £4,000 doesn't seem alot for the lives of an entire family.

I'm holding out for another vile racist diatribe peppered with coquettish emoticons from ArabHibee before I get outraged.

Why can't all these humourless PC zealots leave us alone to stick our heads in celebrity mags, get the techno on and not give a **** about anything.!

Woe betide anyone who challenges your attempt to summarise a year's worth of made-up Daily Mail stories.

As a teacher, that doesn't surprise me in the slightest. Welcome to New Labour's Education System - Micro-management at it's best!

The problem with unsubstantiated rumours, is that a) you can't check the source and b) some people take them as gospel.

What's become of this once great country?

:agree:

It's like the 5 year plans of Soviet times. Still, concentration in class is at an all time high (99.4%), Horseplay is officially down threefold and hijinks are at their lowest for 21 years.

Not looking forward to the Tories, but Labour have definitely run out of ideas.

What a load of tripe. Your reasons for posting were

a) wind-up
b) you believe it all, and wanted to share your anger
c) you believe it all, then having realised its indefensible pash come out with the "I was only joking" defence.

Regardless, this type of lazy, crass, ignorant reporting (and its repetition by individuals such as yourself) is what makes the "facts" reported become accepted wisdom. It is literally anti-intelligence, and needs to be stomped on at every opportunity.

Lighten-up? Nah, this type of crap deserves no accomodation. Its like being force fed stupid pills.
